Material Recycling Theme Day

Euroopa Elamuskeskus, Rävala Boulevard 4, Tallinn

Tuesday, 29 September, from 11am

Material Recycling in a New Era comes to Tallinn Design Festival for a day of big ideas and practical creativity. It kicks off with an hour-long talk on the digital product passport and the UPMADE approach to the circular economy.

From 12.30pm, two beginner-friendly workshops run in parallel: one on T-shirt design and another on making leather wristbands. The day wraps up with Design, Innovation and the Future of Europe, a panel discussion moderated by Ivo Krustok and featuring Margaret Aus, Ilona Gurjanova and others. Entry is free, but advance registration is required.

PyData, Enerfit and Digit Meetup

Lelle 22, Tallinn

Wednesday 30 September, from 5.30pm

PyData Tallinn marks its tenth edition with two sharp talks, food, drinks and the sort of networking that might actually lead somewhere. Hosted by Enefit, the evening begins with introductions from Enefit, Digit and PyData.

Mikhail Iljin, staff machine learning engineer at GScan, will explain how to build a stable R&D process within an ML team at a frontier-physics startup, while Enefit data scientist Artjom Vargunin explores the company’s journey into quantum computing – beyond the hype and into what the technology looks like in practice. Whether you are taking your first steps in Python and data or have years of experience, expect a welcoming crowd and an evening well spent.

International Music Day Gala

Great Hall of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Tallinn

Thursday 1 October, from 7pm

Part awards ceremony, part concert, the Music Awards Gala takes over the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre’s Great Hall on International Music Day. The annual prizes of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia’s music fund and the Estonian Music Council will honour the year’s most important contributions to Estonian musical life. But this is more than a night of trophies: built around works by Estonian composers, it celebrates something harder to define but instantly recognisable – the sound of a culture being itself.

The evening’s artistic director is Toomas Vavilov, with stage direction by Tiit Ojasoo and design by Kairi Mändla. Orchestra Põhijõud will be joined by soloists including Vaiko Eplik, Maria Listra, Age Juurikas, Rein Rannap and Havryil Sydoryk, plus percussionists Heigo Rosin, Vambola Krigul, Lauri Metsvahi and Brita Reinmann. Your ticket also includes entry to the Music Day afterparty.

International Afterwork Party

Ruddy Baar, Sauna 1, Tallinn

Friday, 2 October, from 7.30pm

The International Afterwork Party is for anyone who has ever stood at a networking event wondering how soon they can politely escape. There are no forced introductions, no pressure to pitch yourself and no awkward conversations between people pretending to care about each other’s job titles. Instead, expect a laid-back evening with optional activities designed to get conversations flowing naturally – the kind that lead you to someone you would never normally approach and are genuinely glad you did.

Come alone or bring friends, join in or simply soak up the atmosphere. Happy hour runs from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, with beer and wine for €4 and 50 per cent off spirits and cocktails.

Nigeria Independence Party

Tallinn Afro Empire, 6 Tulika Lane, Tallinn

Saturday, 3 October from 4pm

Tallinn celebrates Nigerian Independence Day with a day-and-night feast of Nigerian food, culture and music, all wrapped in a warm, everyone-is-invited atmosphere. The afternoon begins with food and entertainment before the DJs take over after dark: Sammy Savage, Sup Kinq, HXSI and Yash, with MC Vibe Machine keeping the party moving until late.

Buy a ticket through Fienta or get in free when you order food on the night – an easy choice when authentic Nigerian cooking is on the menu. Whether you are part of Tallinn’s Nigerian or wider African community, curious about the culture or simply after a great night out, the doors are open.
