One is a veteran comic book writer, artist, editor, publisher, licensor, toy manufacturer, TV and film producer, and founder of Image Comics, Todd McFarlane. The other is a relatively new comic book writer who has helped make Marvel's Daredevil comic book an unexpected runaway success, Stephanie Phillips. Together, they are making the Keynote Speech for Comic Book Retailers' Day on Wednesday, the 7th of October at the Javits Centre, one day before New York Comic Con kicks off. Hopefully, Stephanie will at least post her speech on TikTok. Comic Book Retailers' Day will also see speakers from Dark Horse, eBay, Ignition, Universal, Women in Comics Collective, and more.
Comic book retailers can also look forward to the Insider Talks and Comic Industry Social Hour programming on Thursday, the 8th of October, including the ICv2 White Paper and panellists from across the comics and graphic novel business. With The Comic Industry Mixer in the evening.
It's all part of NYCC's Professional Programming, designed for industry professionals with eligible badge types such as Artist Alley, Writers Block, Pro Thursday, Pro 4-Day, Press, Content Creator, Panellist, Exhibitor, and Sidekick. Such as the Innovative Professional Development Programming for Educators and Librarians will be presenting curated panels and professional development for librarians and educators, which will include:
- Weaving LGBTQ+ History into the Narrative with Hidden Voices and Comics
- Know Your Rights: New York City's Innovative New Comic Book
- Hard History Through Comics, featuring Eisner Award-winning author and political cartoonist Ben Passmore
- CENTRO Library & Archives' Lunch Hour Live: Brown Gay Ink Featuring Ivan Velez Jr.
- Panels, Pages, and Patients: Teaching Empathy Through Graphic Medicine
And on Friday, 9th of October, the Popcultr Marketing Summit I have grown to know and love from their MCM presentations, with Experience12, has their own industry panels:
