Nicolas Cage Names His Pick For The Best Spider-Man on the Big Screen

by · GeekTyrant

Nicolas Cage has weighed in on one of the great superhero debates: who’s the best Spider-Man in cinema? While fans continue to argue over the merits of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland, Cage recently made it clear where he stands, and his answer might surprise some Marvel fans.

While promoting his upcoming series Spider-Noir, Cage was asked during an interview with Complex whether he had seen all of the Spider-Man movies. He didn’t exactly give a direct answer, but he did reveal which actor’s take on the iconic wall-crawler impressed him the most.

When asked about his favorite Spider-Man actor, Cage pointed to Garfield without hesitation, saying: “I thought Garfield was a really great Spider-Man. I thought he did a really terrific job. He’s a marvelous actor.”

It’s interesting that Andrew Garfield’s version was the one he enjoyed watching the most. I actually lovd what Garfield did with the character, but my favorite is still Tobey Maguire.

The conversation then took a strange turn when the interviewer introduced a “f—, marry, kill” game involving the various Spider-Men. Cage appeared completely unfamiliar with the game’s rules.

During the exchange, he once again singled out Garfield as his favorite, referring to him as the best Spider-Man in cinema. But when the interviewer suggested placing Garfield in the “marry” category, Cage looked genuinely confused by the concept and seemed unsure how to respond.

It made for a funny moment, but the takeaway was clear. If Cage is casting a vote in the Spider-Man debate, Garfield gets it.

Garfield’s run as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man films has seen a major resurgence in popularity over the last few years. While his movies received mixed reactions during their original release, many fans have come to appreciate his performance, particularly after his return in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

His emotional and energetic portrayal of Peter Parker has earned a lot of renewed respect, and Cage is apparently among those fans.

As for Cage’s own Spider-Man-inspired project, Spider-Noir is taking a very different path. The series exists in its own standalone universe and isn’t connected to the MCU or the animated Spider-Verse films. Cage plays Ben Reilly, also known as The Spider, rather than the traditional Peter Parker version of the character.

The show also appears to be reinventing the character’s origin. Instead of gaining powers through the familiar comic book mythology, Reilly acquires his abilities after being bitten by a prisoner who had been part of a failed supersoldier program during the Great War.

That’s a major departure from the comics, where Parker’s transformation is tied to a supernatural spider-related incident involving a broken spider idol and a swarm of spiders.

Whether fans agree with Cage’s choice or not, it’s always fun to hear where actors land on these long-running comic book debates. And for Cage, Andrew Garfield is the Spider-Man who stands above the rest.
