AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Trailer Hits Theaters and Confirms Marvel’s Worst-Kept Secret
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantIf you had doubts about that leaked Avengers: Doomsday trailer floating around online, those can officially be put to rest. The teaser is real, and it’s playing exclusively in theaters, and it confirms Marvel’s worst-kept secret.
Anyone heading into Avatar: Fire and Ash this week won’t want to miss the trailer becauee Marvel Studios has attached the first Avengers: Doomsday teaser to screenings. The footage opens with Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, pulling up on his Triumph motorcycle and stepping back into the home he shares with Peggy Carter, portrayed by Hayley Atwell. It feels peaceful, intimate, and very much earned after everything the character has been through.
Steve is then shown holding a baby in his arms. Whatever battles are coming next, he now has far more at stake than ever before.
This is an interesting turn considering where things last left off in Avengers: Endgame. Steve passed the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, cementing Sam as the new Cap.
The film closed with a glimpse into Steve’s past, showing him reunited with Peggy and finally getting the life he sacrificed decades earlier. For many fans, that felt like a full stop on his story. Apparently, Marvel had other plans.
How or why Steve Rogers gets pulled back into the chaos of Avengers: Doomsday remains a mystery, but it’s reported that that this movie will put him into Nomad mode.
What is clear is that he’s stepping into a massive ensemble. The film brings in Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, alongside returning MCU heroes, several legacy X-Men actors, and the combined rosters of Thunderbolts, also known as The New Avengers, and Fantastic Four. It’s going to be one of the most crowded Marvel lineups to date.
The reveal also lands after months of public denials from Evans, who repeatedly said he wasn’t returning for another Marvel Studios project. Earlier reports suggested otherwise, and now the trailer settles that debate and paints Chris Evans as a liar!
Marvel isn’t stopping with just one teaser either. Reports indicate that three more Avengers: Doomsday trailers will roll out exclusively with Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings over the next three weeks.
I doo want to point out that I’ve had seceral friends tell me they went and saw Avatar, but they didn’t see a trailer Doomsday play before it, so it may not be playing in every movie theater.
The next one is believed to spotlight Thor, with Chris Hemsworth back in the spotlight. On top of that, directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo have shared a separate uneventful teaser on Instagram featuring a ticking Doomsday Clock, hinting that the countdown has officially begun.
Between Steve Rogers’ return, Doctor Doom’s arrival, and a multigenerational cast colliding on screen, Avengers: Doomsday is going to be a major turning point for the MCU.
