SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Re-Release in the Works With Extra Footage

Marvel’s summer blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day became the highest-grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office and the third-highest grossing ever worldwide, and now it is getting a re-release.

Deadline reports that the movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, will have extra footage that includes, but is not limited to, the previously reported deleted scene with Rosario Dawson’s character Claire Temple.

Temple is a nurse who gives medical aid to vigilantes, and has appeared in the first and second season of Marvel TV’s Daredevil (2015-2016), then Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and spinoff The Defenders.

In interviews, Dawson has mentioned she shot a scene for Brand New Day, but it was cut. We understand that there will be more surprises in the extra footage.

This news comes in the wake of Disney’s successful past weekend with the re-release of the Russo brothers’ Avengers Endgame: Encore, which minted $86 million around the globe ($26M domestic) and moved its current lifetime bank to $2.885 billion, still the second highest-grossing movie ever behind Avatar‘s $2.92B.

And that reissue was linked to Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, which is hitting theaters December 18. The film had a new extended ending and post-credits scenes to lead into the next film.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still playing in most theatres, and while it would be cool to see the extra scenes, I don’t think they’d get the same kind of response that Avengers: Endgame is getting.

They curated Endgame to tie directly into Doomsday, and people hadn’t seen the film in a while as it is. Fans just paid to see Spider-Man, and while it was a great film, bonus footage sounds like something they could release with the Blu-Ray or as a special on Disney+.
