Rupert Grint and Seidi Haarla Face a Terrifying Newborn in the Freaky Horror Trailer for NIGHTBORN
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantHanna Bergholm looks ready to creep audiences out with her latest horror film, Nightborn. Shudder has released the full official trailer, and it's pretty clear this isn't your average "something feels off about the baby" horror story. This thing goes all in on nightmare fuel.
The newborn at the center of the story is genuinely disturbing, and the way this thing unleashes those vicious screams is enough to make your skin crawl. If creepy babies already make you uncomfortable, this movie is about to make that fear a whole lot worse.
The film stars Seidi Haarla as Saga and Rupert Grint as her British husband Jon, a couple hoping to begin a happy new chapter of their lives together. Instead, they find themselves caught in something horrifying after the birth of their child.
The official synopsis reads: "With dreams of starting a perfect family, Saga and her British husband Jon move to the isolated house deep in the Finnish forest where Saga spent much of her childhood.
“But as soon as their baby is born, despite the reassurances of everyone around her, Saga knows something is terribly wrong. As their marriage starts to crack and Jon struggles to support his wife, only Saga suspects the disturbing truth about their newborn child."
Set deep within the Finnish wilderness, the story uses its isolated location to amplify the growing dread as Saga becomes convinced something evil has entered her family.
Jon tries to keep everything together, but the more he dismisses her fears, the more their relationship begins to unravel. The big question hanging over the entire trailer is simple. Is this baby actually possessed? A demon? Something even worse? You'll have to watch to find out.
Bergholm also explained one of the inspirations behind the film, saying: "In Nordic countries, there's a long-standing mythology of trolls living in the forests.
“In ancient times, people truly believed that trolls inhabited the woods and had a kind of control over nature. And in Nightborn, the forest reflects Saga's emotions and the animalistic, primitive physical side of humankind."
That folklore gives Nightborn an extra layer of mystery, making the forest feel just as threatening as whatever is waiting inside the family's home.
Alongside Haarla and Grint, the cast includes Pamela Tola, Pirkko Saisio, Rebecca Lacey, and John Thomson.
Nightborn is directed by Bergholm from a screenplay she co-wrote with Ilja Rautsi. The film is produced by Daniel Kuitunen and Noëmie Devide.
If you're looking for an unsettling supernatural horror movie filled with eerie folklore, disturbing creature horror, and one seriously terrifying baby, Nightborn looks like it'll be worth adding to your watchlist.
Shudder will premiere Nightborn on July 31st, 2026.
