Michael B. Jordan Jokes That He Might Quit Acting to “Make Anime the Rest of My Life”

Michael B. Jordanapparently has another career path in mind, and anyone who has followed the Sinners star’s longtime anime obsession probably won’t be surprised by it.

Jordan won the Best Actor Oscar for playing the dual roles of Smoke and Stack in Sinners, the 2025 vampire film that also took home three other Academy Awards, including Best Director for Ryan Coogler.

Despite reaching one of the biggest milestones an actor can hit, Jordan is still thinking about what else he wants to create. Anime is high on that list.

Speaking with Vogue, Jordan discussed his love of anime, with the publication revealing that he already has anime projects in the early stages of development.

Jordan then joked about how far he might take that passion: "I might just quit it all and make anime the rest of my life."

Hell, why not! If that’s what he’s passionate about and he’s having a fun time creating anime projects, he should do it! I don’t think he will disappear from movies, I don’t see why he couldn’t just do it all, I’d absolutely want to see what kind of anime projects he would produce, though.

It’s no secret he’s a huge fan of anime, and he recently named Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke as his favorite movie of all time. Anime has also influenced his filmmaking, including elements of the Creed franchise, so moving into original anime projects feels like a natural extension of his interests.

Anime continues to grow into a major force at the global box office. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle even outgrossed Superman last year, another sign of just how massive the audience has become.

While Jordan figures out how much anime he wants in his future, Coogler is heading back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Black Panther 3.

The movie is set to arrive in 2028 and will star David Jonsson as T'Challa II, with Denzel Washington also joining the cast in a currently undisclosed role.

Coogler previously spoke about finding the right performer to play the grown-up T'Challa: "In this next film, he grows up, comes of age, and we had to find an incredible actor,"

Jordan obviously has plenty of options after the success of Sinners, but the possibility of him pouring his geeky love of anime into projects of his own might be one of the more interesting directions he could take.

Just maybe don’t quit acting completely, Michael. We can have both.
