AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Reportedly Opens With 10 Minutes That Will “Give People Heart Attacks”

Marvel Studios has reportedly started putting Avengers: Doomsday in front of test audiences, and the early word sounds promising. We’re also hearing something pretty wild about the movie’s opening 10 minutes.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel has held three test screenings for Avengers: Doomsday so far, with the reactions described as "good."

Test screenings obviously aren’t a guarantee of how audiences will ultimately respond to the finished movie, especially since Doomsday has undergone additional filming. Still, positive early reactions are encouraging for a movie carrying this much weight for Marvel Studios.

Richtman also dropped a much more intriguing tease about the beginning of the film, saying its first 10 minutes "are gonna give people heart attacks."

That immediately raises some questions about what Marvel has planned for the opening sequence. The alleged full plot of Avengers: Doomsday has been circulating online for months, though we won’t know how accurate those leaks are until the movie arrives. Recent reshoots also mean certain parts of the story could have changed.

One rumor claims the movie involves an Incursion between the X-Men universe and the reality inhabited by Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. If that report turns out to be true, an event that massive could explain the intense opening Richtman is teasing.

Anthony Russo also recently discussed Robert Downey Jr. taking on the role of Doctor Doom, revealing that Downey was always the first choice he and Joe Russo had in mind for the character.

"Audiences are coming to Avengers: Doomsday with a lot of emotional connection to prior experiences within the MCU," Russo said. "And we have those same emotional connections. So, we want to honour that and figure out how we are using that value and that emotional investment to go somewhere new."

Downey returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom remains one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the movie. Audiences spent more than a decade watching him play Tony Stark, so Marvel clearly understands the baggage and expectations that come with putting him back on screen as one of its most iconic villains.

In Avengers: Doomsday, heroes from three different universes will be sent on a deadly collision course as they face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve encountered before.

The Russo Brothers are directing from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, who previously collaborated with them on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has also been brought in to refine the story alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

If the opening really is as crazy as Richtman claims, Marvel fans are in for one hell of a ride!

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters December 18.
