Trailer for THE LEACHING Unleashes an Unsettling Horror Story Filled With Monsters and Family Secrets
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantDark Star Pictures has released the official trailer for The Leaching, an upcoming indie horror film that marks the feature directorial debut of Evan Showalter.
The movie is headed straight to VOD this summer, and while it may not reinvent the horror genre, it definitely leans into creepy creature feature territory with an eerie mystery, undead threats, and one very disturbing giant leech monster.
The story follows Vivian, played by Reese Parish, who wakes up inside a grave on her father's secluded forest property with no memory of who she is or how she ended up there.
As fragments of her past slowly begin to return, she's forced to uncover the horrifying truth while being hunted by the undead, stalked by a massive leech creature, and trying to figure out whether the man calling himself her father can actually be trusted.
The official synopsis reads: "Family can be so draining..." After waking up in a grave on her father's isolated forest property with no idea of who she is or how she got there, Vivian (Reese Parish) must use her limited memory to try & piece together the nightmarish truth, all the while being tormented by the undead, a giant leech monster after her, and her "father." Over the next few days, she will uncover the framework of a nefarious supernatural scheme, but will it be too late?
Joining Parish in the cast are DeVaughn Loman, Sandon Sylva, and Dylan Obrochta, who takes on the role of the monstrous Leech creature.
Showalter also shared what inspired the story, saying: "The Leaching is an exploration of faith, the loss of self, and the monsters (literally) that emerge when people surrender themselves to something greater than they can understand. It's an isolating horror film that plays with a very uncomfortable question: Can you trust your family?"
I'd say the answer to that question is probably a pretty clear "no."
Showalter both wrote and directed The Leaching, making the jump to feature filmmaking after directing several short films. The project was produced by Gabrielle Dacuycuy, Ryan Dombrowski, Dallys Dorsey, and Showalter.
If you're into low-budget indie horror, supernatural mysteries, and creature features with a strange premise, The Leaching might be worth adding to your watchlist. The giant leech monster certainly gives it a memorable hook, even if the trailer doesn't completely sell the experience.
The Leaching is now on VOD.
