Marvel Studios Reportedly Eyeing Tom Cruise for a Role in AVENGERS: SECRET WARS

by · GeekTyrant

The idea of Tom Cruise joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been floating around for years, and now a familiar rumor has resurfaced with a new twist.

According to the latest report, Marvel Studios is once again trying to bring the Hollywood icon into the MCU, with Cruise reportedly in talks for a role in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Nothing has been confirmed, but if the rumor proves to be true, fans could finally see one of the biggest "what if" casting stories in comic book movie history become a reality.

Cruise has been connected to Tony Stark dating all the way back to the original Iron Man before Robert Downey Jr. ultimately landed the role that helped launch the MCU.

Over the years, speculation has only grown, especially after the Multiverse Saga opened the door for alternate versions of familiar characters.

There were also reports claiming that Kevin Feige wanted Cruise to appear as a Tony Stark variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. According to those rumors, scheduling conflicts prevented the actor from accepting the role.

When Cruise was asked in 2023 how close he actually came to playing Tony Stark, he didn't leave much room for speculation. “Not close. Not close. I love Robert Downey and I can’t imagine anyone else playing this role, and I think it’s perfect for him."

Even so, he didn't completely shut the door on the possibility of joining a superhero franchise in the future.

“I look at a movie and think, you know, I don’t rule anything out. It’s what’s the story? What’s the character? Does it interest me? Do I feel this is what an audience would like to see me in? What can I learn? What can I contribute? That’s really how I look at things.”

Those comments have taken on new life thanks to a fresh report from insider MTTSH, which claims Marvel Studios is currently "talking with" Cruise about appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars. If that ends up happening, it raises one obvious question. Who would he play?

With Downey returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, Marvel has an opportunity to introduce a completely different version of Tony Stark without creating confusion.

One popular fan theory has Cruise stepping into the role of Superior Iron Man, the morally twisted variant from Marvel Comics. It's a character fans have wanted to see for years, and Cruise certainly has the screen presence to make that version of Stark unforgettable.

Of course, there's also the possibility that Marvel has something entirely different in mind. The Multiverse Saga gives the studio plenty of creative freedom, meaning Cruise could portray a brand-new character or another unexpected Marvel variant.

For now, it's worth remembering that this remains a rumor, and Marvel Studios hasn't officially announced Cruise's involvement. Still, considering how long his name has been connected to the MCU, this latest report is sure to keep fans talking as anticipation builds for Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
