Original HE-MAN Star Dolph Lundgren Reveals His Role in New MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Movie
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantFans of Masters of the Universe are about to get a pretty awesome full-circle moment when the new movie hits theaters, and it sounds like the original live-action He-Man himself is stepping back into Eternia in a meaningful way.
During a recent interview at the film’s premiere, Dolph Lundgren, who famously played He-Man in the 1987 cult classic, opened up about his involvement in director Travis Knight’s upcoming reboot.
While details about his role have mostly been kept under wraps, Lundgren confirmed he won’t just be making a random cameo appearance. His character actually plays an important part in guiding the new He-Man.
When speaking with Entertainment Tonight about returning to the franchise nearly four decades later, Lundgren said: “Yeah, it feels great to be part of this legacy and to bring it to a new audience.”
He then revealed a cool detail about his role, explaining: “It’s nice to feel like the elder warrior who’s helping the younger warrior, giving him some inspiration and advice.”
That mentor-style dynamic honestly feels like the perfect way to bring Lundgren back into the world of Masters of the Universe. Instead of simply popping in for nostalgia points, he’s apparently connected directly to the emotional journey of the new He-Man, played by Nicholas Galitzine.
Lundgren clarified that the advice he gives Galitzine’s character actually happens “on screen,” before teasing that he appears “at a crucial time in the picture.”
Lundgren also had plenty of praise for Galitzine’s take on Prince Adam. After seeing him in costume on set, the veteran actor said:
“I thought he looked great on set. He looked like He-Man, and I think he has the gentleness and compassion that’s the other side of strength.”
He continued by explaining how important it is to find the right “balance” between power and humanity when playing the iconic hero.
That’s actually one of the most important aspects of He-Man that often gets overlooked. The character may look like the ultimate fantasy powerhouse, but the heart of the role has always been about courage, kindness, and protecting others.
In a separate interview with PEOPLE, Lundgren also described “passing the sword over” to Galitzine as a “great feeling,” which is probably going to hit longtime fans right in the nostalgia center.
The new Masters of the Universe movie features a cast that includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan / Man-At-Arms, James Purefoy as King Randor, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena Glenn, and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress.
After spending years trapped in development hell with multiple versions falling apart, this movie finally feels like it’s becoming the epic fantasy adventure fans have wanted for decades.
Masters of the Universe premieres in theaters on June 5, 2026.
