The series, which was first announced in November 2025, comes from acclaimed creator Noah Hawleyand is based on Ubisoft's long-running Far Cry video game franchise.
While FX is keeping the story under wraps for now, the show will reportedly follow the same anthology format as the games, meaning each season will feature a brand-new cast, setting, and story.
Caplan is already familiar with the FX family. She most recently starred in Fleishman Is In Trouble, a performance that earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series. Before that, she received another Emmy nomination for her acclaimed work in Masters of Sex.
Her television résumé also includes Fatal Attraction for Paramount+, Zero Day at Netflix, Party Down on Starz, and Castle Rock for Hulu.

This marks the first live-action television adaptation of Far Cry. The franchise previously made the jump to live action with the 2008 direct-to-video film directed by Uwe Boll and starring Til Schweiger. More recently, Netflix released the animated series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix in 2023, which drew inspiration from Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
Ubisoft launched the original Far Cry game in 2004, and the series has grown into one of the publisher's biggest franchises. Five additional mainline entries and several spinoffs have followed over the years, with Far Cry 6 releasing in 2021.
Since the franchise debuted, more than 100 million unique players have jumped into its chaotic open worlds, making it one of gaming's most recognizable brands.
With Hawley leading the creative vision, Mac taking on both starring and producing duties, and Caplan now joining the cast, there's plenty of reason for Far Cry fans to keep a close eye on this adaptation as more details begin to emerge.
