SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Rumor Points to the Return of a Surprise HOMECOMING Villain
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantThe list of villains rumored and confirmed for Spider-Man: Brand New Day just keeps getting bigger, and if the latest reports turn out to be true, Peter Parker is about to run into another familiar face from his past.
A pair of well-known scoopers are claiming that Shocker will return in the next Spider-Man movie, bringing back one of the more unexpected villains from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
According to Daniel Richtman on Patreon, Shocker is set to appear in the film. That report was backed up by MyTimeToShineHello on X, who shared the simple but fitting message: "Shocker will appear in Spider-Man Brand New Day – shocking!"
As exciting as that sounds, it's still just a rumor for now. Neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures has confirmed that Shocker is part of the movie, and the character didn't appear in either of the trailers that have been released. Until the movie hits theaters, fans should treat this as speculation.
If the reports end up being accurate, Shocker would become the second villain from Homecoming to return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Michael Mando is already confirmed to reprise his role as Mac Gargan, better known as Scorpion, and he'll be joining an already dangerous lineup that reportedly includes Boomerang, Tarantula, Tombstone, The Hand, and an as yet unidentified main villain.
Adding Shocker into that mix would giveTom Holland's Peter Parker even more trouble to deal with, making this one of the most villain-packed Spider-Man movies we've seen.
Fans will remember that Homecoming featured two different versions of Shocker. Logan Marshall-Green first played Jackson Brice, who briefly took on the identity before Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture, accidentally killed him.
The gauntlets were then passed to Bokeem Woodbine's Herman Schultz, who used the upgraded tech during a memorable fight with Spider-Man at Peter Parker's high school before ultimately being defeated and arrested by the NYPD.
Whether it's Schultz returning or another version of the character taking up the mantle remains a mystery. If Shocker does make an appearance, it'll be interesting to see how much of a role he actually plays alongside the movie's growing collection of villains.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, and Justin Kuritzkes. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo, all reprising their MCU roles.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, and tickets are now on sale.
