New HARRY POTTER Series Will Make Fans Say “These Are the Books” According to HBO
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantHBO is deep into production on its upcoming Harry Potter series and the people behind it sound genuinely thrilled with how it is taking shape. Appearing at Content London, Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max’s head of original content, offered a confident update that should get longtime fans paying attention.
Aubrey revealed she is headed to set and shared how impressed she has been with what she has seen so far. “I just keep thinking, it’s such a delightful adaptation of the books. And I think when people watch it, they [will] think, ‘These are the books.’”
For fans who have always wanted a version of Harry Potter that dives into every corner of J. K. Rowling’s novels, that comment will spark some excitement.
She also praised the creative force behind the series, pointing out how rooted it is in the U.K. film and television world.
“It’s created by a British writer, it’s directed by a British filmmaker and its craftspeople are the best that this country has to offer,” she explained. “I’m so excited for everyone to see it.”
The new adaptation is currently filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden where the original films were made. HBO is targeting a 2027 release and the plan is for each season to tackle one of the books.
The series is guided by showrunner Francesca Gardiner from His Dark Materials with Succession director Mark Mylod directing. The trio leading the cast are newcomers Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Alastair Stout as Ron and Arabella Stanton as Hermione.
With production underway and early reactions from the top looking enthusiastic, the new Harry Potter series seems to be lining up as something that fans will be excited about.
