Epic New Trailer For Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Reveals a Mythic, Massive Cinematic Event

by · GeekTyrant

Universal has released an epic new trailer for The Odyssey, and it offers a sweeping look at Christopher Nolan’s take on one of the most legendary stories ever told.

The footage pulls viewers straight into the chaos and wonder of Homer’s epic, teasing towering creatures, political betrayal, and a long, punishing journey home. If you were hoping Nolan would go big with this one, that’s exactly what he delivers!

The trailer made its debut during an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, giving audiences their first real taste of what Nolan has been cooking up.

Front and center is Matt Damon as Odysseus, and we even see him battling the Cyclops. At the same time, Robert Pattinson shows up as Antinous, one of the suitors circling Odysseus’ home, clearly looking to seize power while the king is away.

The cast surrounding Damon sees Anne Hathaway step into the role of Penelope, holding things together back in Ithaca, while Tom Holland plays Telemachus, their son caught in the middle of it all.

Then you’ve got Zendaya as Athena, guiding from the shadows, and Charlize Theron as Circe, bringing some mystical danger into the mix.

The lineup keeps going with Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, Jimmy Gonzales, Elliot Page, and Jovan Adepo.

This marks Nolan’s 13th feature film, which he wrote and produced alongside Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner. Distribution duties fall to Universal Pictures, and the studio clearly knows they’ve got something massive on their hands.

Everything about The Odyssey screams scale. This is set to be the first narrative feature shot entirely with IMAX cameras. Universal even pushed things further by releasing 70mm screening tickets a full year early back in July 2025, turning anticipation into an event long before the film hits.

There’s no doubt this is shaping up to be one of those awesome movie-going experiences that demands to be seen on the big screen. Between Nolan’s track record, the mythic source material, and the sheer ambition behind the production, it’s hard not to expect something visually stunning and emotionally powerful.

There’s really no way around it, this movie is shaping up to be epic in every sense of the word. With Christopher Nolan tackling a story this massive. The scale, the visuals, the intensity of the journey, it all feels designed to pull audiences in and keep them locked from start to finish.

Mark your calendars, because The Odyssey sails into theaters on July 17, going head-to-head with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I’m insanely excited about watching this film!
