Trailer for the Horror Film SON OF SARA Teases a Twisted Pregnancy Nightmare

by · GeekTyrant

If you're a fan of pregnancy horror stories that spiral into unsettling and bloody territory, the newly released trailer for Son of Sara might be worth checking out.

Saban Films has unveiled the first look at the indie horror movie ahead of its summer VOD release, and while it's being promoted as "the next generation's take on Rosemary's Baby," the footage seems more focused on delivering gruesome nightmare fuel than redefining the genre.

The story centers on Sara, a pregnant woman whose life begins to unravel as she's plagued by disturbing visions and increasingly strange cravings.

Things only get worse when an invitation to dinner turns into a horrifying ordeal and her estranged boyfriend unexpectedly reenters her life. As these events collide, Sara discovers there's something deeply wrong with the child growing inside her.

The official synopsis reads: "Haunted by strange urges and visions, a pregnant woman named Sara accepts an invitation to dinner that spirals into a bloody, demented nightmare. Her estranged boyfriend's sudden return coincides with a terrifying secret about the life growing inside her."

The film comes from Canadian filmmaker Houston Bone, who also goes by Mathew Murray. Bone previously directed I Don't Know Who You Are, worked on the Teenagers series, and has built an extensive catalog of short films over the years. He both wrote and directed Son of Sara, which is also being referred to as Son of Sara: Volume 1.

Bone shared his excitement about finally bringing the project to audiences, saying: "After gagging Toronto at Blood in the Snow [Festival] this past winter, we are excited to be working with Saban to bring our grisly horror movie, and our new little monster, to audiences across the United States.

This film has been a passion project for all of us since we shot it back in October 2023. Real blood, sweat, and tears went into bringing Son of Sara to the screen."

Whether Son of Sara delivers on the lofty Rosemary's Baby comparison remains to be seen, but the trailer certainly leans into disturbing body horror, sinister mystery, and plenty of gore. For horror fans looking for something dark and twisted to add to their summer watchlist, this might be one to keep an eye on.

Son of Sara arrives on VOD beginning July 31, 2026.
