Danny Boyle’s INK Trailer Throws Jack O’Connell and Guy Pearce Into the Wild Rise of THE SUN

Danny Boyleis diving headfirst into the cutthroat world of British tabloid journalism, and the first trailer for Ink looks like a grimy, fast-moving ride through the birth of a media empire.

Studiocanal and Netflix have released the first teaser for the film, which stars Jack O’Connell as editor Larry Lamb and Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch.

Set in 1969, Ink follows Murdoch as he acquires the struggling British newspaper The Sun and joins forces with the young, ambitious Lamb. Together, they transform the paper into a tabloid powerhouse by figuring out exactly what people want to read and how far they’re willing to go to give it to them.

Boyle describes their unlikely success saying, "These two men created a new tabloid that, against all the odds, became the biggest-selling newspaper in the world. Cheeky, irreverent, daring: the 'super soaraway' Sun challenged the establishment and remade our world for the modern era."

The teaser certainly leans into that attitude. It has a dirty, chaotic energy as Murdoch, Lamb, and their crew chase circulation numbers, sensational stories, and anything that might grab attention. There are shades of The Wolf of Wall Street in the madness, only here the currency is headlines and scandal.

"Any scandal is fair game." That pretty much tells you what kind of newsroom we’re walking into. The official description calls the film: "An explosive cinematic rollercoaster about a group of visionaries and misfits who had an idea for a new kind of news – one that would give the people what they wanted and would change the face of the world we live in today."

Claire Foy also stars as The Sun journalist Jules Davies, with Blake Harrison, Patrick Kennedy, Angus Imrie, and Brian Gleeson rounding out the cast.

Ink is directed by Danny Boyle, the Oscar-winning filmmaker whose wild filmography includes Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, The Beach, Millions, Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Frankenstein, Trance, Steve Jobs, T2 Trainspotting, Yesterday, the series Pistol, and most recently 28 Years Later.

The screenplay comes from James Graham and is based on his acclaimed 2017 stage play of the same name.

Netflix will give Ink a U.S. theatrical release on December 11, 2026, before the movie begins streaming on January 8, 2027. Studiocanal will release it in UK cinemas on January 8, 2027.
