Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Santa Claus in Wild and Fun THE MAN WITH THE BAG Trailer

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back in Christmas mode, but this time he isn’t hunting down a Turbo Man. He’s Santa Claus, his bag of presents has been stolen, and he needs Alan Ritchsonto help get it back.

That’s the wonderfully ridiculous holiday premise of Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming holiday action comedy The Man With the Bag, which pairs Schwarzenegger with Ritchson for a Christmas adventure that looks like it knows exactly how goofy this whole thing is.

Schwarzenegger has spent decades saving Earth, Mars, the future, the past, and just about everything in between. He’s fought aliens, cyborgs, armies, terrorists, and sorcerers. He even battled desperate Christmas shoppers in Jingle All the Way. Somehow, though, he’s never played Santa Claus until now.

In The Man With the Bag, Schwarzenegger’s Santa finds himself in trouble after his magical bag of presents is stolen. To recover it, he recruits a thief from the naughty list, played by Ritchson, while Awkwafina plays the mischievous elf responsible for the theft.

The first trailer leans into the absurdity of Schwarzenegger playing Santa while giving him an action hero partner who looks like he could probably bench-press the sleigh. Seeing Schwarzenegger and Ritchson together has a fun energy.

Schwarzenegger also appears to be having a great time with the role, which could go a long way toward making this one work. There’s something naturally entertaining about watching the star of The Terminator, Predator, Total Recall, and Conan the Barbarian throw on the Santa suit and jump into another big holiday comedy.

The supporting cast adds even more comedic firepower, with Kyle Mooney, Jane Krakowski, and Ken Jeong joining Schwarzenegger, Ritchson, and Awkwafina. Adam Shankman, whose credits include Hairspray, Rock of Ages, and A Walk to Remember, directs the film.

The Man With the Bag will skip theaters and premiere directly on Prime Video on December 2. It’s an interesting move considering Amazon MGM previously sent its expensive Christmas action movie Red One to theaters before its streaming debut. That film didn’t exactly become the holiday blockbuster the studio was hoping for.

Still, writing off Schwarzenegger’s latest Christmas comedy before seeing it would feel a little premature, especially considering what happened with Jingle All the Way. Critics hammered that movie when it arrived in 1996, yet three decades of holiday rewatches have transformed it into a Christmas favorite for plenty of fans.

Could The Man With the Bag pull off something similar? Hopefully we won’t need another 30 years to find out.

At the very least, Schwarzenegger playing Santa alongside Ritchson sounds like the kind of wild Christmas movie pairing worth checking out with some eggnog nearby. The Man With the Bag arrives on Prime Video December 2.
