Simu Liu Reveals the Biggest Thing He and Channing Tatum Bonded Over While Making AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY
by Jessica Fisher · GeekTyrantOne of the most exciting scenes teased in the last Avengers: Doomsday trailer was the epic showdown between Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) and Gambit (Channing Tatum).
The pair have been asked about the fight plenty since we got that sneak peek, and the latest look behind the scenes comes from Liu.
The actor talked to Marvel Studios, and in an interview shared on the studio’s Instagram, Liu revealed how in working with Tatum, he realized they had something major in common:
“We had a lot of days. A lot of days [of] fight choreography, fight rehearsal. He’s just down. I knew he moved well, but then I saw him on the first day of our fight rehearsal, and I was like, ‘Oh, he really moves well.’ Forced me to bring my A-game.
“And, also, I think we’re both two people who don’t like to let the stunt doubles do it. Not every actor is like that but, when you have two actors that are, I think, as deeply committed to being in and kind of owning that physicality, that bodes well for the fight scenes.”
I can’t wait to see how this scene plays out on the big screen! There’s so much I’m looking forward to in Doomsday and Secret Wars, and a lot of that is the unknown. The Russo Bros know how to make an Avengers film, and I think we are in for a treat with these two films.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18th, and Avengers: Secret Wars hits cinemas on December 17, 2027.
