Terminator 2: Judgment Day, one of the greatest action movies ever made is heading back to the big screen for its 35th anniversary, giving longtime fans and newcomers the chance to watch James Cameron's sci-fi classic in theaters once again.

StudioCanal, Fathom Entertainment, and Rialto Pictures have officially announced a worldwide theatrical re-release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day beginning in late August and continuing into early September.

The film returns in stunning 4K, RealD 3D, and premium large formats, making this one of the biggest anniversary celebrations the franchise has ever received.

The U.S. release is set for August 28, arriving just in time to commemorate the film's infamous "Judgment Day" date of August 29.

Released in 1991, Terminator 2 became a game-changing blockbuster that raised the bar for visual effects while delivering one of the most entertaining action stories ever put on screen.

The sequel reunited Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamiltonafter 1984's The Terminator, while introducing memorable performances from Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick.

The movie remains the highest-grossing entry in the Terminator franchise, earning more than $517 million worldwide. It also picked up four Academy Awards for Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Makeup, along with the rare A+ CinemaScore from audiences.

This theatrical presentation uses StudioCanal's acclaimed 2017 restoration and 3D conversion, giving fans what will likely be the definitive way to revisit the film.

James Cameron shared his excitement about bringing the movie back to theaters, saying: “T2 was made for theaters, and our lovingly-prepared 3D version, coming back to the big screen, is the absolute best way to see the film.

“I believe it’s safe to do spoilers after 35 years, so SPOILER ALERT: the good guys win against the AI superintelligence! And maybe that’s a message of hope we all could use this summer.”

StudioCanal CEO and CANAL+ Chief Content Officer Anna Marsh also celebrated the global event, saying: “We are incredibly proud to mark the 35th anniversary of James Cameron’s masterpiece Terminator 2: Judgment Day in partnership with the passionate teams at Fathom Entertainment and Rialto Pictures in the US. This collaboration has been thrilling, and we cannot wait for audiences to mark Judgment Day in theaters all over the world this August.

“The continued restoration and discovery of classic and revolutionary cinema is the cornerstone of our strategy and it’s particularly gratifying to see the scale of this celebratory re-release come to fruition.”

Ray Nutt, Chief Executive Officer for Fathom Entertainment, added: “Terminator 2: Judgment Day was a cultural phenomenon in the U.S. upon release and 35 years later, remains a timeless, non-stop thrill ride that audiences – new and old – will love to see.

“With non-stop action, iconic performances from Arnold Scwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, spectacular sound and visual effects, and even a massive hit song by Guns N’ Roses (“You Could Be Mine”), the re-release of T2 is a must-see theatrical event perfect for 3D and other premium formats.”

Fans won't have to wait long to celebrate, with the international rollout taking place over multiple territories:

August 27: Germany, Latin America, Czech Republic

August 28: United States, Italy, Poland

September 2: France

September 3: Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary

September 4: United Kingdom

Whether you've already watched Terminator 2 dozens of times or have somehow never experienced it on the big screen, this anniversary release looks like the perfect excuse to change that.

Between the restored 4K presentation, immersive 3D conversion, and premium theatrical formats, audiences are about to get one more chance to witness one of the greatest action movies ever made exactly where it belongs.

I can’t wait to watch this movie on the big screen again!
