Curry Barker’s ANYTHING BUT GHOSTS Adds Chris Reinacher as Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Focus Features Continue Their Winning Streak
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantThings continue to move fast for Curry Barker, whose rising profile in the horror genre has turned a lot of heads in Hollywood. Following the breakout success of Obsession, Barker’s next feature, Anything But Ghosts, is building out its cast with the addition of Chris Reinacher.
The upcoming film comes from Focus Features and the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster partnership, with Spooky Pictures and Divide/Conquer also producing.
Reinacher joins a cast that already includes Barker, Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard, Violet McGraw, and Cooper Tomlinson.
The casting news arrives at a particularly exciting time for Barker. His current film, Obsession, recently became Focus Features’ highest-grossing domestic release, earning more than $111 million at the box office. The horror film also landed an A- CinemaScore, a rare achievement for the genre.
The connection between Barker and Reinacher goes back years. Reinacher is a filmmaker, comedian, writer, and digital creator whose online work has generated more than 400 million views.
His short films have screened at Sundance and Cannes, and his latest project can be found on the That’s a Bad Idea YouTube channel with Fly Me to the Earth, a sci-fi comedy that he directed, co-wrote, and stars in alongside Barker and Tomlinson.
His television credits include serving as showrunner on Read the Room, a digital sketch series that has amassed more than 100 million views online.
As an actor, Reinacher has appeared in Your Friends Will Never Believe You, NBC’s Superstore, Fox’s The Mindy Project, and projects for Adult Swim and Comedy Central Digital. He also led Hulu’s Teenage Mountain Lion.
Reinacher was also one of the original members of BuzzFeed Video, helping create viral content during the company’s early growth years.
His personal YouTube channel has nearly 400,000 subscribers, while his podcast Wine & Weed has surpassed 3 million streams and featured guests including Michael B. Jordan, Machine Gun Kelly, Quinta Brunson, and Jo Koy.
Barker co-wrote Anything But Ghosts with longtime collaborator Tomlinson, who also stars in Obsession. Together, they are part of the massively popular comedy collective That’s a Bad Idea, which has built a huge following across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
The film is being produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Roy Lee and Steven Schneider for Spooky Pictures, and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer.
The project is being made in association with Image Nation and That’s a Bad Idea. Barker, Tomlinson, and Image Nation’s Ben Ross are attached as executive producers.
One of the more interesting parts of Barker’s rise is how quickly major studios recognized his potential. Blumhouse and Atomic Monster played a key role in bringing him into the fold, encouraging Focus Features to acquire his feature directorial debut Obsession out of TIFF Midnight before it went on to become a major success.
With Anything But Ghosts assembling an impressive cast and creative team, it’ll be interesting to see what Barker delivers next as his career continues its upward climb.
