MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE TV Spot Teases He-Man Riding Battle Cat and We Have a New Featurette
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantA new TV spot for Masters of the Universe has surfaced online, and even though it’s a little rough around the edges, it delivers a moment fans have been waiting for. Right at the tail end of the footage, we finally get a glimpse of He-Man riding Battle Cat, and it looks pretty awesome.
The teaser appears to have been screen recorded and shared by a fan site, so the quality isn’t perfect. Still, the important part comes through loud and clear.
In the closing seconds of the 60-second clip, He-Man raises the Power Sword while mounted on Battle Cat, who’s rocking that classic red cloak straight out of the original cartoon and toy line. It’s quick, but it hits the awesome button!
We’ve already seen Cringer, Prince Adam’s loyal and lovable tiger companion, pop up in earlier trailers. There was even a fun nod where Amazon MGM swapped out the iconic lion roar with Cringer’s.
But until now, his full transformation into Battle Cat hadn’t been shown. That transformation is a big deal, with his green-tinted fur and armored red cloak forming one of the most recognizable looks in the franchise.
Alongside the spot, a new featurette has also been released, offering a look behind the making of the film with added footage and commentary from the cast and crew. It digs into the story and characters, giving a better idea of what this new take on Eternia is aiming to deliver.
You might assume Battle Cat showing up is a given, but longtime fans know that wasn’t always the case. He didn’t appear in the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie, largely due to budget limitations. That same film also scaled back Skeletor’s design into something much more human-looking.
This new adaptation stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, who’s living a normal life on Earth before being pulled back to Eternia to face off against Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. The film is directed by Travis Knight, with a script written by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and David Callaham.
Masters of the Universe is set to hit theaters on June 5, and if this quick tease is anything to go by, it looks like the movie is leaning into the classic elements fans have been hoping to see.
