Brendan Fraser’s THE MUMMY 4 Lands an Earlier October 2027 Release

If you’re a fan film involving dusty tombs, ancient curses, and wisecracking adventurers, you’re getting a nice surprise. The long-awaited return of Brendan Fraserand Rachel Weisz to the world of The Mummy is arriving earlier than expected.

The upcoming fourth film in the franchise has shifted its release date to October 15, 2027, moving up from its original May 19, 2028 slot. Whether it’s because Lee Cronin’s recent take on the monster didn’t leave much of a lasting impression or because spooky season just fits this franchise better, the new timing puts the film right where it belongs. October and creepy mummies just go together.

That previous May release window isn’t going unused, though. It’s now set to be taken over by a Miami Vice ’85 project starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, which is a pretty wild swap in tone.

This new Mummy film marks the first time Fraser and Weisz have reunited in their iconic roles since the early 2000s, bringing Rick and Evelyn O’Connell back into the spotlight.

The franchise originally launched in 1999 and quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its mix of adventure, horror, and humor. John Hannah, who played the always-entertaining Jonathan, is also set to return, which makes this feel even more like a proper continuation.

Directing duties are in the hands of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo known collectively as Radio Silence. Their resume leans more into horror than the classic adventure tone of The Mummy, with projects like Scream, Scream VI, Abigail, and Ready or Not under their belt. Their most recent film, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, continues that trend.

That horror background could push this new installment into slightly darker territory. Then again, the original films weren’t exactly light on nightmare fuel.

Plot details are still being kept under wraps, so there’s no clear direction yet for where Rick and Evelyn’s story goes next. But it’s safe to assume we’ll see more ancient ruins, cursed artifacts, and creatures that should definitely stay buried. With the release date moving up, it likely won’t be long before more information starts to surface.

For now, it’s just exciting to know that The Mummy is coming back sooner than expected, and with the original cast in tow, it’s actually something worth getting hyped about!
