John Cena Addresses Possible Return as Jakob Toretto in Vin Diesel’s FAST FOREVER

by · GeekTyrant

Could John Cena make a surprise return as Jakob Toretto in Fast Forever? I mean, if the movie actually ever gets made. The actor has weighed in on whether he’ll reunite withVin Diesel for the final chapter of the Fast & Furious franchise, and it sounds like he’s perfectly happy leaving his character’s fate alone.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Cena was asked about the possibility of returning to the franchise following Jakob's heroic sacrifice in Fast X. His response was pretty straightforward. “It’s so beyond my control.”

While Cena doesn't know what the future holds for Jakob, his relationship with Diesel remains as strong as ever. In fact, the two have become incredibly close outside of the movies.

Cena described Diesel as “literally my big brother” and “one of my closest friends.” They regularly keep in touch, but their conversations have little to do with Hollywood or the Fast & Furious movies. “We never talk about business,” Cena explained. “There’s so much more to talk about with Vin.”

Of course, this franchise has a long history of bringing characters back from seemingly certain death, so Jakob returning wouldn't exactly be the craziest thing we've seen. However, Cena actually thinks keeping his character dead might be the better choice for the story.

“Maybe that was the way for my character to end their story,” he said. “Maybe it would help make the next one, if there is one, more meaningful if I didn’t show up.”

That's a nive perspective, especially for a franchise where death doesn't always stick. Jakob went out saving his family, and Cena seems to appreciate the idea of letting that sacrifice mean something.

More than anything, he's just grateful he got to join the Toretto family in the first place. “Dude, I got to be a Toretto. I look in the rear view and see the Toretto cross. Dope.”

Meanwhile, Diesel has been working toward the conclusion of the Fast & Furious saga for years. The actor has described the Fast Forever script as “the best” he's read in decades, and he's hoping production will begin in December 2026. But then we recently learned there is no script, so…

Universal Pictures has scheduled Fast Forever for release on March 17, 2028, with the story heading back to Los Angeles, bringing the franchise full circle to where it all started.

Whether Cena ends up making one more appearance remains to be seen. He clearly loves Diesel and his time with the franchise, but he also understands that bringing Jakob back could take something away from his emotional farewell.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Fast Forever found some way to bring him back, even if it's just for a brief appearance. They’ve done crazier things! This is Fast & Furious, after all, where just about anything is possible when the family wills it.

Would you like to see John Cena return as Jakob Toretto in Fast Forever, or should the franchise leave his heroic sacrifice untouched?
