Marvel Producer Wants a WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Sequel, but Disney Still Needs to Give It the Green Light
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantMarvel Studios has barely scratched the surface of its supernatural universe, and one project that absolutely deserves a sequel is Werewolf by Night. The 2022 Halloween special was one of the coolest things Marvel has done, and producer Brad Winderbaum is just as eager as fans to revisit that creepy corner of the MCU.
Unfortunately, there's one thing standing in the way. Disney still needs to approve it. During an interview with ComicBook, Winderbaum, who is also producing Marvel's upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest, revealed that bringing back Werewolf by Night is high on his wish list.
He explained, “I love Werewolf by Night. I really want to make a Werewolf by Night Season 2 or Part Two: if Disney will let me.”
Winderbaum has a long history with Marvel Studios, including working on the studio's smaller projects, and he's a big supporter of the Special Presentation format.
He explained, “I produce the one-shots, like going back all the way to the Agent Coulson one-shots before we made Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
For Winderbaum, these shorter projects offer an opportunity to “find a weird corner of the universe.” That's exactly what made Werewolf by Night so much fun. It gave Marvel the freedom to experiment with horror and introduce characters who didn't need to be connected to the next big Avengers storyline.
As for getting another special made, Winderbaum acknowledged that there's still work to be done, saying, “Everything has to go into development and find its footing. But certainly I want to make more.”
There have been reports that Marvel Studios wants to expand its Special Presentation lineup, and a Werewolf by Night sequel has been rumored as one of the potential projects. However, Marvel and Disney haven't officially announced anything.
The original special, directed by composer Michael Giacchino in his directorial debut, arrived on Disney+ in 2022 and marked Marvel Studios' first real venture into horror. Its black-and-white presentation, classic monster movie influences, and wonderfully strange characters made it stand out from the usual MCU fare.
I absolutely loved Werewolf by Night! It was a refreshing change of pace for Marvel, and I'd love to see Giacchino return to direct another one. The characters and the world introduced in that special have so much potential, and it would really suck if we never got a sequel or saw these characters again in the MCU.
With Ryan Gosling also set to bringGhost Riderinto the MCU, Marvel's supernatural side could finally start getting some much-needed attention.
A Werewolf by Night sequel would fit right in, giving Marvel another opportunity to explore its monster-filled universe while introducing even more supernatural characters and threats.
Hopefully, Disney gives Winderbaum the greenlight soon because Werewolf by Night deserves another chapter. Marvel has something really cool with these characters, and leaving them on the shelf would be a wasted opportunity.
Would you like to see another Werewolf by Night Special Presentation, or should Marvel bring these characters back in a full Disney+ series?
