Emile Hirsch, Kate Beckinsale, Cara Delevingne and More Join Wild Southern Action Dramedy TURNBUCKLE
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantA new indie film just wrapped production, and it’s bringing together a interesting mix of talent. Writer-director Sean McEwen has officially finished shooting Turnbuckle, a dark comedy action dramedy that’s keeping its story mostly under wraps but already sounds like something worth keeping on your radar.
The film stars Emile Hirsch, Kate Beckinsale, Terrence Howard, Evan Ross, and Cara Delevingne, which makes this one of those projects you can’t help but be curious about. It was shot in Arkansas and is described as a Southern-set story blending redemption, survival, and just the right amount of small-town chaos.
While plot specifics are still being kept quiet, the tone is being teased as edgy and character-driven, with a mix of humor and grit. That combination could give this film a unique personality, especially with a cast that knows how to lean into both drama and eccentricity.
Ross didn’t just star in the film, he also helped produce it alongside Greg Carney under their Film Mafia Entertainment banner. They teamed up with producers like Daemon Hillin, Ryan R. Johnson, and Mia Chang.
Ross shared his excitement about the project, saying: “This is one of those rare films that feels both dangerous and elevated. The cast is electric, the tone is fresh, and we believe Turnbuckle will stand out as a prestige film with real cultural impact.
“None of this would have been possible without Christopher Crane and the Arkansas Film Commission. Arkansas, especially Hot Springs National Park, is a little paradise with its lakes, spas, restaurants, casino, and the perfect vibe for making a movie.”
McEwen isn’t new to blending genres. He previously directed American Otlaws and the dramedy Braking for Whales, and Turnbuckle sounds like it’ll continue that trend with a story that leans into offbeat storytelling and layered characters.
