James Gunn Shuts Down MAN OF TOMORROW Rumor That Newly Cast Matthew Lillard Could Be Playing The Flash

by · GeekTyrant

James Gunn’s Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow has been shrouded in rumors since casting began. First the addition of actress Adria Arjona led fans to wonder if she would be a villain, or DC’s next Wonder Woman. While Gunn has left fans to their own devices in speculation, a new rumor has gained some traction, and the director is quick to shut this one down.

When asked directly on Threads about the rumor that Matthew Lillard will play Barry Allen aka The Flash, the DC boss simply said, “No.” So who is he playing? It’s not like Gunn is going to simply give that info away.

So that leaves us to try and put it together before it’s officially announced. The only hint we have so far is the on-set photo of Lillard and Gunn someone captured, in which Lillard is in costume… looking totally normal.

So he could be another reporter at The Daily Planet, or he could be a character tied to the Blue Beetle, as we know Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his role in the upcoming film.

Or he could be a deep cut from the comics, or someone created by Gunn just for this movie! There’s no way to know for sure until the movie comes out or a trailer drops giving us the intel.

Man of Tomorrow is set to be released on July 9, 2027.
