AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 13 Trailer Delivers a Bloody, Campy Franchise Crossover

The American Horror Story reunion is getting wonderfully ridiculous. The new trailer for American Horror Story: 13 brings back a ridiculous number of familiar faces, plenty of blood, some wonderfully campy dialogue, and enough callbacks to make longtime fans start cataloging every frame.

Season 13 appears to be pulling characters and ideas from across the series into one massive horror crossover, with the Coven witches seemingly caught in the middle of a threat promising “terrifying and vengeful death.”

One of the trailer’s more unexpected additions is legendary filmmaker John Waters, whose mysterious character offers an appropriately ominous explanation for the season’s favorite number: “13 stands for instability and chaos.”

Billie Lourd also returns as Winter Anderson from Cult, and she seems very aware of how hard the show is committing to its numerical theme.

The trailer also brings back Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, and Evan Peters, all looking ready to chew through every scene they’re given.

There’s plenty of nasty horror mixed in with the reunion festivities. Twisty the Clown is back and leaving a bloody trail behind him, while the footage teases some kind of creature emerging from the darkness. Naturally, the trailer is also loaded with Ryan Murphy Easter eggs and visual callbacks for fans to pick apart.

We already knew Season 13 would revisit characters from Murder House, Cult, Coven, and Freak Show, but Hotel is clearly joining the party as well. A certain leopard-print coat is pretty hard to miss, as is a very familiar vintage serial-killer mustache.

The returning ensemble also includes Gabourey Sidibe,Leslie Grossman, Joey Pollari, Paul Anthony Kelly, Mena Suvari, and Orlando Jones, with the possibility of even more surprises being kept under wraps.

At this point, American Horror Story: 13 is starting to look like the franchise’s own twisted crossover. We’ve got witches, killers, clowns, monsters, and assorted psychopaths showing up for the party.
