Tom Holland Teases a Bigger Spider-Man and Punisher Future After SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY

One of the biggest reasons fans are excited about Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the long-awaited big-screen arrival of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. After earning a loyal following through his television appearances and delivering another memorable performance in Punisher: One Last Kill, Bernthal is finally stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s theatrical spotlight alongsideTom Holland’s Spider-Man.

While Marvel is still keeping most details about Frank Castle’s role under wraps, the footage released so far suggests that the relationship between Spider-Man and Punisher could become one of the film’s biggest highlights.

The two heroes clearly approach crime-fighting from very different angles, creating plenty of tension between them. At the same time, there are hints that Frank sees something of himself in Peter Parker, even showing concern when he tells him, “You’re losing it, kid.”

According to Holland, fans may only be seeing the beginning of what this partnership can become. During an interview with Collider, Holland shared his excitement about working alongside Bernthal and teased that their on-screen chemistry became one of his favorite parts of the movie.

“I think one of my favorite aspects of this new film is the relationship between The Punisher and Spider-Man. It’s no secret that I absolutely love Jon Bernthal, and sharing the screen with him and building this new on-screen relationship was so fun.

“ What is in the film is very different to what was on the page, and I’m so grateful to Destin for giving us the freedom to play with it and create something really special. I wouldn’t be surprised if Spidey and the Punisher become a recurring duo.”

That possibility would mark a major shift for Holland’s Spider-Man franchise. Up to this point, each solo adventure has paired Peter Parker with a different MCU mentor or ally. Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark played that role in Homecoming, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury stepped in for Far From Home, and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange was central to No Way Home.

Bringing Bernthal back for a potential fifth Spider-Man movie would break that pattern, but it makes a lot of sense. Brand New Day appears to be steering Peter back toward the street-level stories that made Spider-Man such a beloved character in the first place. In that environment, few Marvel characters fit more naturally than Frank Castle.

It would also give Marvel an opportunity to develop a relationship that feels very different from anything Peter has experienced before. His bond with Tony Stark became one of the emotional anchors of the Infinity Saga, but outside of that connection, Holland’s Spider-Man hasn’t spent much time building meaningful long-term relationships with other heroes.

That’s where Punisher could become especially interesting. If Holland’s comments are any indication, Brand New Day is only beginning to explore the dynamic between Peter and Frank.

Rather than treating Punisher as a one-off guest star, Marvel could allow their uneasy alliance to grow over several films. The contrast between Peter’s optimism and Frank’s hardened worldview creates endless storytelling possibilities, particularly when both characters are operating in the same corner of New York City.

There’s another reason this partnership feels important. Holland also revealed that Brand New Day carries a larger message centered on “the importance of community.” That theme connects directly to Peter’s emotional state following the events of No Way Home. With the world forgetting who he is, Peter finds himself more isolated than ever.

Promotional material has already hinted that reconnecting with Ned and MJ will be part of that journey, but Frank Castle may end up playing a big role as well. A friendship between Spider-Man and Punisher could help Peter rediscover the value of human connection. Shared struggles and hard-earned trust might create a bond that extends far beyond a single movie.

Of course, the future of the Spider-Man franchise remains a moving target. Holland has already discussed the idea of eventually passing the mantle to characters like Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen. If Marvel heads in that direction, the studio will need to balance Peter’s ongoing story with the introduction of the next generation of Spider-Heroes.

Still, there’s no reason those ideas can’t coexist. In fact, watching Frank Castle navigate the chaos of multiple Spider-People swinging through New York sounds like a recipe for some fantastic entertainment.

For now, fans will have to wait and see how much screen time Spider-Man and Punisher actually share in Brand New Day. But if Holland’s enthusiasm is any indication, Marvel may have stumbled onto a duo worth keeping around for a long time.
