Action movie fans have a very good reason to get excited. The creative forces behind two of the most adrenaline-fueled action franchises are joining together for an original film that already sounds like it has all the right ingredients.

With John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, The Furious director Kenji Tanigaki, andPeter Dinklageall attached, The Reckoner has quickly become one of the most intriguing action projects on the horizon.

Following the critical and box office success of The Furious, Lionsgate has officially closed a deal for Tanigaki's next original action film, The Reckoner. Kolstad is writing the screenplay, while Dinklage is set to star in a currently undisclosed role.

The movie also marks another collaboration between Lionsgate and AGBO after the companies previously partnered on John Rambo.

At the moment, The Reckoner doesn't have a release date, but with this creative team in place, it's already climbing the list of must-watch action movies.

If you’ve seen The Furious, this announcement is going to get fans excited! The film delivered one jaw-dropping action sequence after another, especially during its unforgettable third act.

Tanigaki pushed fight choreography in wildly creative directions, including an insane sequence where two fighters turn bicycles into weapons before tearing each other apart with the broken pieces.

Miao Xie as Wang Wei and Joe Taslim as Navin each delivered several standout moments throughout the film, while Brian Le nearly stole every scene as Ho, particularly when his character got his hands on a sledgehammer.

Because The Furious raised the bar with its inventive action, The Reckoner certainly has a challenge ahead of it. At the same time, Tanigaki has already shown that he isn't interested in repeating what's come before. If anyone can dream up another collection of unforgettable fight sequences, he's certainly proven he's capable.

Erin Westerman, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, shared her excitement about continuing the relationship with the filmmaker, saying:

“One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is discovering filmmakers with distinctive voices, bringing their work to wider theatrical audiences, and partnering with them as they take on projects of greater scale and ambition.

“That’s exactly what excites us about Kenji Tanigaki. The Furious showcases a singular filmmaking talent, and we’re thrilled to reunite with our friends at AGBO to bring his bold vision for The Reckoner to audiences worldwide.”

Angela Russo-Otstot, Chief Creative Officer at AGBO, also praised the project and explained why Tanigaki became the obvious choice to direct:

“Derek Kolstad and Peter Dinklage came to us with a world we hadn’t encountered before, original, action-packed, and with genuine soul. The moment we saw what Kenji Tanigaki did with The Furious, his take on action so unique and engaging we knew immediately he was the only director who could take this vision and bring it to life.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be bringing this remarkable collection of talent together with Lionsgate, whose commitment to bold, character-driven filmmaking makes them the perfect partner for this project.”

It's easy to see why this project has so much potential. Kolstad has already redefined modern action storytelling with John Wick, Tanigaki just proved he can create some of the most inventive fight scenes in recent memory, and Dinklage continues to surprise audiences with the variety of roles he takes on.

While we'll have to wait a little longer to learn more about The Reckoner, movie goers who haven't experienced The Furious yet won't have to wait much longer. The film will soon be available on video on demand for rental and purchase.
