AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumor Claims Doctor Doom Was “Radicalized” by the Movie’s Real Villains

A new rumor suggests Marvel’s Doctor Doom might not be the real threat pulling the strings in Avengers: Doomsday.

The latest claim involves the mysterious Latverian Witches and suggests they could have played a major role in shaping Doom into the villain we’ll meet in the upcoming MCU movie. It’s an interesting possibility, though one that’s already rubbing some Marvel fans the wrong way.

Marvel insider MyTimeToShineH shared the rumor on X, claiming Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm will begin questioning whether Doom is actually the true enemy.

The insider wrote, “In Avengers: Doomsday, Sue Storm suspects that the witches are the real villains, not Doom. She claims they ‘radicalized’ him.”

Those witches are the Latverian Witches, characters whose costumes were previously revealed at Comic-Con. If the rumor is accurate, they could have a much larger role in Avengers: Doomsday than simply serving as Doom’s followers.

It also raises some big questions about how Marvel intends to portray Victor von Doom. Doom is traditionally a character driven by his own ego, intelligence, convictions, grudges, and hunger for control. The suggestion that outside forces helped push him down this road hasn’t exactly won everyone over.

One fan, @scifiguy_117, responded, “I hate that idea. I want Doom himself to be responsible for his beliefs and views, not radicalized. Have Sue think that and be proven wrong; it’s just him.”

Another fan, @Smaucks2, had a much simpler reaction: “I don’t think the guy named ‘Doom’ would need to be radicalized to be evil.”

Of course, Sue believing something doesn’t necessarily mean she’s right. Her suspicions could simply be part of the story, and Marvel could ultimately reveal that Doom is completely responsible for the choices he’s made. For now, this remains an unconfirmed rumor, and Marvel hasn’t revealed the full nature of Doom’s relationship with the witches.

Previous reported details have connected Doom’s story to the incursions threatening the multiverse, with the actions of Marvel’s heroes helping create the catastrophic situation now unfolding across different universes.

The Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men are all expected to get dragged into that conflict. Doom has been positioned as the major villain of the story, while the Latverian Witches and a rumored Doctor Strange variant are said to be among his allies.

That makes this new rumor interesting. The witches may be working alongside Doom, but Sue Storm could come to believe they’re responsible for creating the monster everyone else is trying to stop.

Whether the Latverian Witches actually turn out to be the greater threat or Sue simply has the wrong read on Doom remains to be seen. Personally, I’m hoping Doom remains responsible for his own path.

Part of what makes the character so compelling is that Victor doesn’t need someone else to turn him into Doctor Doom. He can get there perfectly well on his own.
