SAVING SIZEMORE Trailer Explores the Troubled Life and Acting Career of Tom Sizemore

Tom Sizemore was one of those actors who could walk into a movie, bring a dangerous intensity to the screen, and immediately make things more interesting.

A new documentary titled Saving Sizemore takes a hard look at the actor’s turbulent life, from his Hollywood success and memorable performances to addiction, abusive behavior, damaged relationships, attempts at redemption, and his final years.

The documentary now has a trailer, offering a glimpse at what looks to be a very personal examination of Sizemore beyond the characters and reputation that defined much of his career.

I was a fan of Sizemore during his heyday. The guy was a genuinely great actor who delivered some incredibly strong performances, particularly when filmmakers needed someone who could bring intensity and volatility to a role.

His work in Saving Private Ryan, Heat, and Black Hawk Down remains some of the best-known material from a career filled with tough, complicated characters.

Of course, Sizemore’s real life became far more troubled than the movies he appeared in. Addiction plagued him for years, his relationships fractured, and his abusive behavior caused real harm. Saving Sizemore doesn’t appear interested in ignoring those parts of his story to create a sanitized Hollywood retrospective.

Instead, the documentary examines both sides of Sizemore’s life, including the career he built, the damage he caused, the consequences he faced, and his efforts to find some form of redemption. It also looks at the friends and other people who remained connected to him through the final chapter of his life.

Years in the making, Saving Sizemore aims to move past the headlines and public persona to explore who Sizemore was when the cameras weren’t rolling. Considering just how chaotic his life became, there’s a lot of complicated territory for the documentary to cover.

Saving Sizemore is produced and directed by Charles Lago, with Rafael Portillo serving as editor and director.

Sizemore’s story isn’t an easy one, and it certainly isn’t a simple Hollywood rise-and-fall tale. He had serious talent, built an impressive body of work, and gave audiences performances that still hold up.

He also struggled with addiction and made choices that hurt people around him. Saving Sizemore looks to confront all of it rather than reduce his life to either his greatest performances or his worst moments.
