Jason Momoa Thinks Superman Would Find Lobo Completely Annoying and He’s Probably Right

One of the biggest additions to the DCU in Supergirlis the long-awaited debut of Jason Momoaas the galaxy's most chaotic bounty hunter, Lobo. Fans have been waiting years to see Momoa take on the role, and some reactions to Supergirl have singled out his performance as one of the movie's biggest highlights.

The frustrating part is that, despite how entertaining Lobo is whenever he's on screen, the character ends up feeling completely wasted in Supergirl.

He really doesn't contribute much to the overall story, and it honestly feels like he was included just so audiences could finally meet him. That's disappointing because Lobo has more than enough personality and presence to carry the movie as its primary villain.

Instead, he feels like an afterthought, and the film never fully taps into what makes the character so much fun.

Even so, Momoa clearly understands exactly who Lobo is, and during an interview with CinemaBlend he shared how he thinks David Corenswet's Superman would react if the two eventually crossed paths in the DCU.

His answer was simple and perfectly in character: “Oh, I'm just an annoyance. I'm just an annoyance to Superman.”

Comic book fans have seen Superman and Lobo butt heads plenty of times over the years, and the dynamic has always been entertaining.

Lobo isn't necessarily Superman's greatest physical threat, but he knows exactly how to get under the Man of Steel's skin. Whether it's through his reckless attitude, over-the-top violence, or complete disregard for authority, Lobo has a unique ability to make Superman's life more complicated than it needs to be.

Momoa expanded on that idea, explaining exactly how he sees their relationship playing out: “I would think so. He's just like, ‘Oh, man,’ like just a pain in his ass. I mean, but we can also brawl, so it would be good to….

“I'd like to think that Superman wouldn't stoop to that level, but I would probably, like, try to [makes noise].... push his buttons a little bit. And then, you know, wouldn't mind having a little tussle with him.”

That sounds exactly like the kind of relationship fans would expect between these two iconic DC characters.

Considering Superman's incredible strength and Lobo's immortality, any fight between them would be one of the most entertaining showdowns the DCU could deliver. It wouldn't just be about who wins.

Watching Superman try to keep his cool while Lobo constantly pushes every button he has sounds like comedy gold mixed with some spectacular action.

Supergirl also establishes an entertaining relationship between Kara Zor-El and Lobo. The two spend much of the movie getting on each other's nerves, although, without getting into spoilers, they eventually develop a certain amount of mutual respect by the end of the story. It's an enjoyable dynamic, even if Lobo ultimately feels underused.

Momoa has already said he'd happily headline a solo Lobo movie, provided it's allowed to be an R-rated adventure. That actually feels like the perfect fit for the character, whose outrageous personality and ultra-violent antics have always pushed the limits of what you'd expect from a traditional superhero story.

Whether he gets a solo movie or appears in another DCU project first, it would be a missed opportunity if Lobo never gets the chance to share the screen with Superman. Seeing the Big Blue Boy Scout forced to deal with the "Main Man" practically writes itself.

For now, fans can catch Lobo's first DCU appearance by heading to theaters and checking out Supergirl. Even if the movie doesn't give him nearly enough to do, Jason Momoa proves he was the right choice to finally bring the Scourge o' the Cosmos to life.
