Marvel Fans Get Real About CAPTAIN AMERICA 5 Wishlist, and They Just Want a Good Script
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantMarvel fans aren’t holding back when it comes to what they want from the next Captain America movie. After the mixed reaction to Captain America: Brave New World, the conversation has shifted from hype to honesty.
If you scroll through fan discussions right now, one request rises above everything else, and it’s surprisingly simple… They just want a well-written movie.
A Reddit thread sparked the debate, asking fans what they’d like to see if Sam Wilson gets another solo outing after the rumored MCU “reset.”
The question reads: “If Sam Wilson gets another film, what would you like to see in it in terms of plot and character, post the 'reset' when the 3 main universes merge together? I would quite like to see him take a role in trying to control and face the new Mutant population and the X-Men along with the Avengers.”
That reset idea refers to the long-rumored merging of the MCU, Fox’s X-Men universe, and the Fantastic Four timeline following Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. While that crossover chaos sounds exciting, fans seem less concerned about multiverse mechanics and more focused on the basics.
The top response cuts straight to the point: “Competent writing and dialogue.”
It’s a blunt response, but it reflects a real frustration. A lot of viewers felt Brave New World struggled to find its identity, juggling too many borrowed plot threads instead of telling a strong, focused story for Sam Wilson.
That idea comes up again and again. One fan said: “An actual Sam Wilson movie instead of a Hulk sequel.”
The inclusion of characters like Red Hulk and The Leader, along with leftover elements like Tiamat from Eternals, made the film feel more like a patchwork continuation of other stories instead of something built specifically around Captain America.
Some fans are open to revisiting those loose ends, but only if they’re woven into something that actually belongs to Sam. One comment dives into that balancing act, saying:
"I kind of like the idea of having Sam pick up all the dropped plotlines from earlier movies, but not if it's just making his movies a direct sequel to just one movie.
“Like, if this movie was more focused on 'The leftover stuff from Eternals and the leftovers stuff from Incredible Hulk have come together to make something worse and only Captain America can handle it,' that'd be fine. But this was more like... 'We're making a Hulk sequel and not involving Hulk at all... don't worry, he's in Spider-Man, though!'"
Then there are the fans who want Marvel to swing for something completely different. One idea that was presented pushes Sam into the far future, turning him into a true “man out of time” in a way that mirrors Steve Rogers but with a wild twist:
"Do something wild with it. Captain America 3000. Have Sam make a crazy sacrifice in Doomsday, after giving the shield to Steve (so that’s the shield old man Steve gives back to young Sam).
“Have the post credits scene include Sam waking up like Steve did in 2011, but it’s the far future, the year 3000. Sam teams up with the Guardians of Galaxy of the future, as a throwback to the original comic book team, where they had their own future Captain America. This would make Sam truly a man out of time."
They even take it further, saying: "I think Mackie could work well in that environment and it would give Marvel Studios a new era of Marvel lore to explore. Old Man Logan, Hawkeye, 2099 characters, etc.
“This could set up that era to be used in future mutant storylines too, like with Apocalypse. Maybe a crossover with Spider-Man 2099 too if the Sony relationship doesn’t sour."
It’s a big, ambitious pitch, and honestly, it could be pretty cool. But whether Marvel goes cosmic, grounded, or somewhere in between, fans are unified on one thing.
They want Captain America to feel like the center of his own story, and they want a strong script.
Brave New World had the ingredients to be something great, but constant rewrites and shifting themes seemed to muddy what it was trying to say. The next film doesn’t need to be bigger. It just needs to be clearer, tighter, and actually built around its hero.
We’ll see where things go when Sam returns in Avengers: Doomsday. But if Marvel is paying attention, the message from fans is loud and clear.
Start with the solid story and script. Everything else comes after.
