AVENGERS: SECRET WARS Rumor Suggests Thor Could Have One of the Wildest Roles in the Story
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantThe rumors surrounding Avengers: Secret Warsjust keep getting bigger, and if this latest one turns out to be true, Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder may end up sharing the spotlight... with several versions of himself.
We already know that Avengers: Doomsdayis expected to feature a massive ensemble cast, with heroes and villains from across the Marvel Multiverse. But Secret Wars has always felt like the movie where Marvel Studios could really let loose, pulling in characters and variants from every corner of its cinematic universe.
Now, a new rumor suggests that Thor could be getting one of the biggest roles in the entire film. According to scooper MTTHS, Secret Wars will feature "multiple" variants of Thor.
Rather than simply giving fans a handful of alternate versions of the God of Thunder for quick cameos, Marvel could be adapting one of the coolest concepts from the comics, the Thor Corps.
In Marvel Comics, the Thor Corps served as God Emperor Doom's law enforcement on Battleworld, made up of different male and female Thor variants pulled from across the Multiverse.
If Marvel Studios heads in that direction, it could open the door for several fan-favorite characters to finally make their MCU debuts.
Among the possibilities are Eric Masterson, who famously wielded Mjolnir and became Thor, Dargo Ktor, the Thor of the future, and perhaps the long-awaited arrival of Beta Ray Bill. Fans have been hoping to see Beta Ray Bill in live-action for years, and Secret Wars could finally provide the perfect opportunity.
Of course, this is still just a rumor, but it lines up with previous reports that Odinson will be one of the central figures in Secret Wars. If that's the case, surrounding him with alternate versions of Thor would be a really cool way to fully embrace the Multiverse while giving audiences something they haven't seen before.
Meanwhile, Hemsworth has already confirmed that he isn't finished playing the God of Thunder. In fact, it sounds like he'll be sticking around beyond Secret Wars.
Speaking about his time playing Thor, Hemsworth reflected on how much the role has evolved over the years: "It’s been so much fun," he said of revisiting the character.
"And what I’ve really enjoyed it—unlike a lot of what the other characters that the [actors] were given, they have had to be pretty consistent— whereas working with Taika Waititi on his films versus Kenneth Branagh with those films and then with the Russos, all [the films] had quite a different sort of tonal opinion."
He continued: "But [the Russos] also let me try different things. It’s the same with my tattoos, I’d be getting really bored [with] the same thing and having a real need to kind of throw [the performance] in different directions."
Those comments make even more sense if Marvel is planning to keep finding fresh ways to use Thor. Playing alongside alternate versions of the character, or even interacting with entirely different interpretations of the God of Thunder, would certainly give Hemsworth plenty of new creative opportunities.
If Marvel does introduce the Thor Corps, it could become one of the biggest highlights of Secret Wars. It's exactly the kind of larger-than-life comic book concept fans have been hoping the Multiverse Saga would eventually embrace.
We'll have to wait and see if the rumor proves accurate, but it's certainly an exciting idea to imagine several Thors charging into battle together when Secret Wars finally arrives.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
