Five Nights at Freddy’sstars Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard recently offered an update on the upcoming sequel teasing that “it’s gonna be scarier” than the first movie.

Hutcherson told Esquire: “It’s much bigger; the stakes are higher. There’s more animatronics being brought in, different animatronics being brought in, and the world just opens up in a big way.”

He added, “We’re finding the balance right now of building this world and expanding it in a really cool way but also making sure the characters stay really grounded.

“That’s something that I really think that we all fought for in the first film, because this world that was created in ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s,’ it’s so out-there.

“It’s so over-the-top and wacky, in a way, that to find the emotional truth of the characters was gonna be what was gonna work.”

He added: “I think the fans are gonna flip for it. It’s gonna be a lot of fun with the source. It’s gonna be scarier, too, actually.”

In a separate interview with Forbes, Lillard was also asked about the sequel, and he said: “I will say that I think the filmmakers have done a great job of learning from the first movie of what fans want, and I think they’re giving a lot more of that.

“It’s going to be more exciting, and I think it’s going to have more action. It’s going to have a lot of character development stuff. It’s hard to kiss around it. I think the story ends, and this movie ends in a really exciting way.”

So it sounds like Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is going to be an all-around bigger, better, and scarier movie. I’m excited to see where they take this next chapter of the story. The first film was a a lot of fun!

Emma Tammi is returning to direct the sequel. She was previously asked about the future of the franchise and if she'd be willing to visit some of the other Five Nights at Freddy’s settings, like "Circus Baby's Pizza World," or the "Mega Pizzaplex," home to the Glamrock models of the animatronics.

She explained that she’s excited about exploring the universe further, saying: "I am not closing the door to that at all. I would be so excited to pursue additional films in this world ... so, fingers crossed."

Blum previously talked about the future of the franchise, saying: "Well, I think the right video games make great source material for movies. I mean, you saw that even with [The Super Mario Bros. Movie].

“It's a different genre, but it was an amazingly successful movie. I certainly hope that's the case [with Five Nights at Freddy's]. James [Wan] is actually a big gamer and we have a games division of our company that we've been working on.

“I'm definitely looking forward to finding more games that are popular and that we could turn into horror movies."

The first film follows “a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through.” There are ghost children who possess giant animatronic animals that are out to terrorize.
