VOUGHT RISING Trailer Reveals a Very Different Soldier Boy in First Look at THE BOYS Prequel
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantPrime Video has finally dropped the first trailer for Vought Rising, the upcoming prequel to The Boys, and it offers a fascinating look at a much younger version of Soldier Boy played once again byJensen Ackles.
What makes this first footage especially interesting is seeing how different Soldier Boy is from the reckless, foul-mouthed disaster fans met in The Boys.
In this series, he actually seems sincere. He wants to be a real hero. There’s an optimism to him that feels strange considering the monster he eventually becomes. Of course, this is still the world of The Boys, so things probably won’t stay idealistic for long.
The teaser also gives us our first look at the early days of Vought International and the arrival of Compound V-powered heroes before Homelander and the Seven ever existed.
The setting is the 1950s, and the series looks like it’s leaning hard into that era’s glamorous surface while exposing the ugly mess hiding underneath it.
Aya Cash returns as Stormfront, though at this point in history it doesn’t appear many people know who she truly is or what she’s connected to. Watching Soldier Boy operate so closely with her already feels like a ticking time bomb.
The official synopsis reads: “Vought Rising marks the further expansion of the global franchise. Set in the 1950s, the prequel series explores the twisted origins of Vought International,” with an Amazon press release promising viewers a story “that will define this next evolution of the franchise.”
The cast also includes Mason Dye, Will Hochman, KiKi Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Elizabeth Posey, Ricky Staffieri, and Brian J. Smith.
Paul Grellong serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series is also executive produced by Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg.
Series creator Eric Kripke recently shared more details about the tone of the project teasing a darker crime-driven story set inside a much dirtier version of 1950s America than audiences are used to seeing on screen.
“It’s definitely got some Boys‘ DNA in that it’s irreverent and graphic. But it has this sort of lovely, almost noir-like murder mystery — not Black Noir but actual noir. There are detectives and twists, and there’s a murder that then opens up into a bigger conspiracy."
He continued: "We’re also trying to do a very gritty version of the ’50s. Most people’s feeling or sense memory of the ’50s is from movies, which are very sanitized. Even L.A. Confidential, as much as I love it, is visually a pretty clean movie.
“We wanted dirty and grimy. There would be heroin dens and gay bars and this underbelly of popular culture at the time. So to explore all that is a blast, as well."
That noir-inspired direction actually feels like a perfect fit for this franchise. The trailer hints at corruption, propaganda, celebrity worship, and violence bubbling under the polished Americana aesthetic. It looks like Vought Rising wants to show the exact moment superheroes stopped being symbols and started becoming products.
Vought Rising premieres on Prime Video in 2027.
