Star Wars Day is shaping up to be something special this year, and fans of the galaxy far, far away have a very good reason to be excited about May the 4th.

Lucasfilm has officially announced a global IMAX fan event that will give audiences an early look at The Mandalorian and Grogu, and it sounds like it’s going to be a must-attend experience.

The studio is hosting free screenings at select IMAX theaters worldwide, where fans won’t just be celebrating the franchise, they’ll be getting a legit sneak peek at what’s coming next.

Attendees will be treated to over 25 minutes of exclusive, never-before-seen footage from the upcoming film, along with some fun extras like a brand-new collectible poster and other surprises that haven’t been revealed yet.

The story picks up in the aftermath of the Empire’s collapse, with the galaxy still trying to find its footing. The official synopsis teases where things are headed:

“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu,”

That setup opens the door for some awesome storytelling, especially with the New Republic struggling to maintain order while remnants of the Empire continue to stir up trouble.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau, who has been steering this corner of Star Wars since the beginning. He’s also producing alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce.

The cast is led by Pedro Pascal returning as Din Djarin. He’s joined by Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt and Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward.

The supporting lineup includes Jonny Coyne, Filoni, and Steve Blum, with an unexpected and pretty wild addition from Martin Scorsese, who lends his voice to an Ardennian shopkeeper. The score is handled by Ludwig Göransson, whose work has already helped define the tone of this story.

This IMAX event is a celebration of where Star Wars is right now and where it’s headed next. Getting that much footage this early is a big deal, especially for a project that has a lot riding on it as it transitions from streaming success to the big screen.

The film officially hits theaters on May 22, 2026.
