Jem and the Holograms Teams Up with Cold Slither for a Rockin' Theme Song Crossover, and You Can Watch The Music Video
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantOne of the reasons Jem and the Holograms became such a beloved animated series wasn't just the larger-than-life adventures. The music was a huge part of its identity, delivering catchy songs that some fans still remember.
Now, that musical legacy gets a fresh shot of energy thanks to an unexpected crossover with the legendary rock group Cold Slither from G.I. Joe, and the result is a seriously fun reimagining of the iconic Jem theme song.
We’ve got a music video to share with you, which brings together Jem and the Holograms and Cold Slither for a performance that feels like a celebration of two classic Hasbro franchises colliding in the best possible way.
The original Jem and the Holograms theme song ranks among the most memorable cartoon themes of the '80s, but Cold Slither's new take cranks up the intensity with a heavier rock sound.
The music video features Jem and the Holograms sharing the stage with Cold Slither while also mixing in footage of the real-life band performing the track.
Cold Slither first appeared in the classic G.I. Joe animated series in an episode appropriately titled Cold Slither. In the story, Cobra created a fake rock band as part of one of its schemes. The lineup included Zartan, Ripper, Torch, and Buzzer, who disguised themselves as musicians to spread Cobra's influence through music.
The group's songs were packed with subliminal messages designed to lure audiences to Cold Slither concerts. Once people arrived, Cobra planned to profit from the crowds and potentially hold concertgoers for ransom.
The bizarre plan actually gained traction, with several Joes, including Shipwreck, Footloose, and Breaker, falling under the band's influence and heading to a show.
While Cobra's scheme ultimately failed, Cold Slither took on a life of its own outside the cartoon. To celebrate G.I. Joe's 40th anniversary, Hasbro partnered with Reigning Phoenix Music to bring Cold Slither into the real world as an actual band.
The lineup features Gus Ríos as Zartan, Matt Harvey as Ripper, Ross Sewage as Torch, and Andy Selway as Buzzer. Since then, the group has continued performing and even made an appearance at last year's San Diego Comic-Con.
Now they've crossed paths with Jem and the Holograms, creating a mashup that feels surprisingly natural given how music-driven both properties are.
The timing couldn't be better either, as Jem and the Holograms has been enjoying a resurgence over the past year. BOOM! Studios recently revived the classic comic series, with a brand-new comic launch expected later this year. Fans have also seen the arrival of a new toy line from The Loyal Subjects, featuring Jem, Jerrica, and Synergy.
On top of that, it was announced that a Jem and the Holograms reboot is currently in development at Prime Video, with Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan's Kilter Films attached to the project.
The production company previously helped bring Prime Video's hugely successful Fallout adaptation to life, which gives longtime fans plenty of reasons to be optimistic about Jem's future on television.
