Lily Gladstone and Kiowa Gordon to Star in Supernatural Horror Western THE CURSE OF SILVER
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantA cursed chest of Confederate silver, two Union deserters, and a Texas border town about to have one hell of a bad day. That’s the hook for the upcoming supernatural horror western The Curse of Silver, which has Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon) and Kiowa Gordon (Twilight, Dark Winds) attached to star.
The film reunites Gladstone and Gordon with Geoff Marslett, who previously directed them in Quantum Cowboys. This time, Marslett will share directing duties with Gordon, who is also serving as an executive producer on the project.
Set in the aftermath of the Civil War along the Texas-Mexico border, The Curse of Silver mixes classic western territory with supernatural horror. The official description reads:
“Set on the lawless Texas-Mexico border in the aftermath of the Civil War, the film follows two Union deserters who drag a cursed chest of Confederate silver into a besieged town, unwittingly unleashing supernatural violence.”
That’s a pretty cool concept for a horror western. The combination of Civil War-era desperation, a besieged border town, and cursed Confederate treasure gives Marslett and Gordon plenty to play with when it comes to violence, paranoia, and whatever supernatural nightmare comes attached to that silver.
Marslett co-wrote the screenplay with Rafael A. Ruiz. His previous directing credits include Quantum Cowboys, which played Annecy and FilmFest München, as well as Mars, starring Mark Duplass, which screened at SXSW and the London Film Festival. He also directed Loves Her Gun, which won at SXSW.
Liz Cardenas, whose credits include A Ghost Story, is producing alongside Ram Getz (Sunny). Cardenas is also a former Gotham Cannes Producers Network Fellow and Juror. Gladstone, Gordon, and Michael Mortensen are executive producing.
The Curse of Silver is one of 80 projects selected for the 2026 Gotham Week Project Market, taking place September 27 through October 3 in Brooklyn. A production start date hasn’t been announced yet.
Gordon recently wrapped Season 5 of AMC’s Dark Winds, which is executive produced by George R.R. Martin. Gladstone, meanwhile, will next appear opposite Michael B. Jordan in Amazon MGM’s upcoming The Thomas Crown Affair, which is scheduled to arrive in March 2027.
Horror and westerns make a damn good combination when filmmakers know how to use the isolation, violence, and harsh landscapes that come with the genre. Throw cursed Civil War silver into the mix, and The Curse of Silver sounds like it could have some nasty supernatural surprises waiting out on the frontier.
