Travis Knight Talks MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Sequel After Film Finds Big Success on Prime Video

by · GeekTyrant

Travis Knightmay not be finished with Eternia just yet! While Masters of the Universestruggled to find its footing at the box office, the live-action He-Man movie has found a much bigger audience on Prime Video, and that success could give the franchise another shot.

The film earned $114 million worldwide against a reported production budget of $170 million to $200 million. Those numbers weren't exactly what the studio was hoping for, but the movie has enjoyed an impressive second life on streaming, holding the No. 1 spot on Prime Video's movie charts for five consecutive weeks.

So, could that be enough to get a Masters of the Universe sequel made? Knight recently spoke with ScreenRant about the possibility of returning to Eternia. While he made it clear that the decision isn't his to make, he'd be more than happy to get the gang back together.

“It was such a joy making that movie; I had so much fun working with that team. If the universe, in its wisdom, asks us to make more of these things, we would be delighted to give them more.”

Knight also explained that filmmakers can only pour everything they have into a project and hope audiences connect with it. In this case, that connection seems to have grown considerably since the movie arrived on streaming.

There's also plenty of unfinished business in Eternia, and Knight has already planted the seeds for some exciting stories.

By the end of the movie, Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, has returned to Eternia and embraced his destiny as He-Man, wielding the power of Grayskull.

One of the film's post-credits scenes introduces Adam's twin sister, Princess Adora, also known as She-Ra. She's revealed in the Fright Zone, and Knight has previously confirmed that She-Ra would have a major role in a potential sequel.

That opens up some awesome possibilities, especially with the Fright Zone as a major setting. The location could introduce another major Masters of the Universe villain, Hordak, who could take over as the primary threat in the next movie.

Of course, Skeletor isn't necessarily out of the picture. Another post-credits scene teases the return of Jared Leto's villain, with Alison Brie's Evil-Lyn involved. There's certainly enough material here to keep He-Man busy for another adventure.

While critics were mixed on Masters of the Universe, giving it a 67% score on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences were considerably more enthusiastic, awarding it an 85% approval rating.

That audience response, combined with the film's Prime Video performance, makes a streaming-exclusive sequel an interesting possibility. It could give Amazon MGM Studios a way to continue the story without relying on another expensive theatrical release.

Nothing has been officially announced, and the movie's disappointing box office numbers are still a major hurdle. But Knight is clearly interested in returning, and the film's success on Prime Video shows there's an audience willing to spend more time in Eternia.

Personally, I'd love to see Knight get another crack at this world, especially with She-Ra and Hordak potentially entering the picture. There's a lot of fun stuff they could explore with those characters.
