New MCU Rumor Teases Three Marvel Special Presentations, Including WEREWOLF BY NIGHT 2

Marvel Studios may be getting ready to give its Special Presentation format another serious workout, and if this new MCU rumor pans out, three corners of the Marvel universe could be getting some much-needed attention.

According to scooper Alex Perez, Marvel Studios currently has three new Special Presentations in development: a sequel to Werewolf by Night, Heroes for Hire, and Strange Academy.

None of these projects has been officially announced by Marvel, so they should remain in rumor territory for now. Still, each one fits surprisingly well with where the MCU appears to be heading.

Of the three, Werewolf by Night 2 might be the easiest project for fans to get excited about. Perez specifically says “a sequel for Werewolf by Night” is in development, which would finally bring Marvel back to one of its coolest experiments of the Multiverse Saga.

Werewolf by Night was Marvel Studios' first Special Presentation and the directorial debut of Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino, whose composing credits include The Batman and the Jurassic World trilogy.

The horror-inspired special introduced viewers to Jack Russell, played by Gael García Bernal, Elsa Bloodstone, played by Laura Donnelly, and the instantly lovable Man-Thing, better known to his friends as Ted.

The special was a big success and showed just how much fun Marvel could have when it stepped away from the traditional superhero formula and played around with monsters, hunters, curses, and old-school horror. The frustrating part is that Marvel hasn't really done anything with those characters since.

Fans have spent years wondering when Jack, Elsa, and Ted would return and whether they might eventually cross paths with some of the other supernatural characters lurking around Marvel's universe.

With Ryan Gosling's Ghost Ridermovie now in the pipeline, revisiting Werewolf by Night suddenly feels like a particularly good move. Marvel has plenty of supernatural pieces to play with, and it would be great to finally start connecting some of them.

Then there's Heroes for Hire, a project that could scratch an itch Marvel fans have had since the Netflix era. The concept has been sitting right there since Luke Cage and Iron Fist debuted in 2016 and 2017 as part of Netflix's interconnected Defenders universe alongside Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Now that Marvel has been bringing those characters deeper into the MCU, the timing couldn't be much better.

Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox, Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter, and Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, have all made the transition into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and were most recently seen in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

Iron Fist is also on his way back. Finn Jones has already been announced to reunite with his fellow Defenders cast members in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. That gives Marvel a pretty easy runway into a Heroes for Hire Special Presentation.

It could serve as a direct continuation of the street-level stories coming out of Daredevil, similar to how Born Again Season 2 was quickly followed by the Punisher Special Presentation One Last Kill.

Whether Marvel sticks closely to the classic Heroes for Hire lineup or decides to remix the roster for the MCU, getting the project at all would be another major victory for fans who spent years hoping the Marvel-Netflix characters wouldn't be abandoned.

The third rumored Special Presentation, Strange Academy, has been floating around the MCU rumor mill for years, but there's reason to think Marvel may finally be serious about it.

Near the end of 2025, scooper Daniel RPK reported that Marvel Studios had pulled the property off the back burner and put it back into active development. A Strange Academy project would also arrive at an interesting point for the MCU's larger magical storyline.

There has been increasing evidence that Avengers: Doomsday, and presumably Avengers: Secret Wars, will lean into the magical side of Doctor Doom. Reports and leaks have pointed toward masked “Witches” acting as Doom's henchmen, potentially making sorcery much more important to the MCU's immediate future.

If Marvel is about to throw audiences into a massive conflict involving Doom, witches, sorcerers, and reality-bending magic, a school dedicated to training the next generation of mystical heroes suddenly becomes a pretty natural place to go afterward.

For anyone unfamiliar with the comics, Strange Academy is essentially Marvel's answer to Hogwarts. The school brings together young witches, wizards, mystics, and other magically gifted students from around the Marvel Universe, including children connected to some seriously nasty villains.

Doctor Strange runs the academy, while several recognizable Marvel magic users serve as instructors. That last we heard, it was being concidered for a movie.

There are already plenty of MCU characters who could fit into that world. Agatha All Along expanded Marvel's witchcraft mythology, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness left America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez, training alongside the mystics of Kamar-Taj. She would be an obvious character to connect with Strange Academy.

And why stop there? Ned Leeds, played by Jacob Batalon, demonstrated his own surprising talent for magic in the Spider-Man films. Sending Ned into Strange Academy, even for a quick appearance, could be a fun way to bring him back into the MCU.

What's especially interesting about these three rumored projects is how different they are. Werewolf by Night can dive headfirst into Marvel horror and its growing supernatural world. Heroes for Hire can keep building the MCU's street-level corner and capitalize on the return of the Defenders. Strange Academy can expand Marvel's magical mythology while introducing a younger generation of characters.

That's exactly why the Special Presentation format works so well. Not every Marvel idea needs six to nine episodes of television or a $200 million movie. Sometimes an hour or so with a great character, a distinct style, and a story that gets right to the good stuff is enough.

But if all three actually happen, the MCU could have a pretty awesome trio of Special Presentations covering monsters, street-level heroes, and young sorcerers.
