HALLOWARRIOR Trailer Unleashes HEREDITARY Star Milly Shapiro into a Halloween Apocalypse

Halloween is hard enough to say goodbye to without the world ending. Shudder is taking that post-Halloween misery to its logical extreme with Hallowarrior, a new post-apocalyptic horror movie starring Milly Shapiro as the last girl on Earth, fighting raiders while trying to keep her favorite holiday alive.

The new Hallowarrior trailer throws Shapiro into a wasteland where Halloween candy, costumes, and decorations have become precious commodities.

Shapiro plays Pumpkin, the sole survivor of a plague that wiped out humanity. Instead of abandoning Halloween along with civilization, she heads into the wasteland looking for supplies so she can continue celebrating. Unfortunately, her holiday plans take a violent turn when a gang of raiders arrives.

The official description reads: “Pumpkin, the last girl on earth and sole survivor of a humanity-ending plague, scavenges the wasteland for supplies on the eve of Halloween.

"“Her lonely holiday ritual is interrupted by the arrival of a savage gang of raiders at her doorstep led by the fearsome Thalia. Outnumbered and armed with candy, wit and weapons, Pumpkin must ferociously fight back to survive the night.”

Candy, weapons, Halloween, and a post-apocalyptic showdown sounds like a pretty fun combination for a horror flick.

Joining Shapiro in the cast are Ajani Russell, AJ Bowen, and Shannyn Sossamon. Writer and director Ben Sottak has described the film as a celebration of the horror genre and the holiday that fuels it.

“Hallowarrior is a love letter to horror and Halloween, and I am thrilled that the film has found its home with a distributor whose brand is synonymous with both.

“It’s an honor to have Hallowarrior join the Shudder family, and a treat to introduce their audience to this fun, scary, gory film along with its badass lead, Pumpkin, played by the incredible Milly Shapiro.”

Shapiro is already well known to horror audiences thanks to her memorable performance as Charlie in Hereditary. Her character became a major part of the film's disturbing legacy, particularly through one of its most shocking sequences.

Bowen also brings plenty of horror experience to Hallowarrior. His genre credits include The House of the Devil and You’re Next. Sossamon has appeared in horror and supernatural projects including The Order, Catacombs, One Missed Call, Sleepy Hollow, and Wayward Pines.

Halloween horror movies aren't exactly difficult to find every October, but Hallowarrior has a wonderfully weird hook separating it from the usual slashers and supernatural stories.

Turning Halloween into a treasured ritual at the end of civilization gives the movie plenty to play with, especially when Pumpkin has to defend it with candy, wit, and some serious firepower.

If the movie can deliver on the trailer's mix of Halloween fun, gore, and wasteland mayhem, Pumpkin could have the makings of a cool new seasonal horror hero.

Shudder will release the movie on October 16, giving horror fans a new Halloween survival story just in time for the season.
