Could John Wick Join Forces with the High Table in JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 5? Derek Kolstad Likes the Idea

by · GeekTyrant

The John Wick franchise has never been afraid to flip the script. Now, as excitement builds forJohn Wick: Chapter 5, franchise creatorDerek Kolstad is teasing the possibility of a major shift in direction, one that could see John Wick teaming up with the last group you’d expect… the High Table.

With John Wick: Chapter 4 leaving audiences questioning Wick’s fate, fans are eagerly awaiting what comes next. While plot details are still being kept under wraps, Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelskiare both back on board, and Kolstad recently offered some intriguing insight into the story’s potential path in an interview with ScreenRant.

Responding to a question about whether Wick could be forced to work with the High Table instead of fighting against them, Kolstad said he’d love to see a team-up that flips expectations.

“What I think is interesting is, when you look at our favorite movies, you have good guys and bad guys at first. Then I remember watching Return of the Jedi in the theater, and when Darth Vader stands up and grabs the Emperor, I didn't know as the 11-year-old [that the story] could do that, and every kid with me lost our s***.”

“[We were] just in kind of shock and awe, like, ‘Wait a minute.’ And then he throws him off the side, and you have that father-son moment, right?

“You look at our favorite movies, [and] it's you and me with guns on each other at the end of the first act, and [then it’s] you and me, at the beginning of the third act, back to back against the worst.”

“Ultimately, I hope this story goes in such a way where there's a familiar face you were destined to hate, [and] you're like, ‘Wait a minute. Oh, okay. It's us versus them and them. F*** them.’ So that's where the thinking goes, and I wish them nothing but love, man.”

Kolstad’s comments don’t directly confirm a partnership with the High Table, but they definitely tease the kind of twist that would shake up the John Wick formula.

Rather than sticking with the lone-wolf-against-the-world approach, Chapter 5 could explore complex alliances and moral gray areas. Imagine Wick and a former enemy standing back to back, gunning down an even bigger threat, it’s the kind of unpredictable storytelling the series thrives on.

The High Table has long been the puppet master of the John Wick universe, pulling the strings of the criminal underworld. They’ve been the ultimate big bad for four films, setting the rules and punishing those who break them. So the idea of Wick possibly teaming up with them isn’t just surprising, it would be a seismic shift in the franchise’s dynamic.

It also opens the door to some really cool possibilities. After four movies of being hunted and betrayed, seeing what Wick could accomplish with the High Table’s resources at his disposal could be next-level badass.

John Wick has always been more than just its brutal action. There’s heart behind the gunfire. A reluctant alliance with a hated enemy wouldn’t just keep things fresh, it could add new emotional depth to Wick’s journey.

Whatever the plan is for John Wick: Chapter 5, Kolstad’s tease has fans bracing for a wild ride. Whether Wick ends up working with the High Table or facing off against an even greater enemy, one thing’s for sure, it won’t be business as usual.
