Kevin Bacon Heads Back Into Horror for Jeremy Slater’s SUMMONER

by · GeekTyrant

Kevin Bacon is returning to familiar horror territory with a new supernatural thriller titled Summoner, and it sounds like the kind of nightmare-fueled story that could deliver some serious chills.

According to reports, Bacon has signed on to star in Summoner, an upcoming horror film that will mark the feature directorial debut of Jeremy Slater. Genre fans will recognize Slater from his screenwriting work on Godzilla x Kong, the upcoming Mortal Kombat II, and The Exorcist television series.

The film centers on an exorcist named Jefferson Haddock, played by Bacon, who is summoned to a remote witness protection safe house to confront a terrifying demonic presence.

What begins as a mission to eliminate an evil force quickly spirals into something much worse when Haddock accidentally unleashes a supernatural threat capable of destroying him and everything around him.

Instead of simply battling a demon, the protagonist finds himself responsible for unleashing something even more dangerous, which will give the story an extra layer of tension and chaos to the narrative.

Slater also wrote the screenplay, making Summoner a particularly personal project as he steps into the director’s chair for the first time. While he has built a career writing large-scale studio projects and genre stories, this will be his first opportunity to bring one of his own scripts to life as a filmmaker.

The project has some strong horror talent backing it as well. Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, the filmmaking team behind It and It: Chapter Two, are producing through their Nocturna banner. Dan Kagan, who produced Longlegs, is also on board as a producer.

Amazon MGM Studios has set up the project, adding another high-profile horror title to its growing slate. Bacon has always been a great fit for horror, with memorable performances in films like Tremors, Flatliners, Stir of Echoes, and more recently MaXXXine.

Putting him in the role of an exorcist facing a demonic force unleashed by his own actions feels like a perfect recipe for a tense and entertaining supernatural horror movie.
