BLUE EYE SAMURAI Season 2 Finally Has a Date for Its Next Big Netflix Reveal

by · GeekTyrant

Fans waiting for news on Blue Eye Samurai finally have something to circle on the calendar. Netflix has confirmed when the next major update for Season 2 will arrive, and it’s happening during one of animation’s biggest global events.

The hit animated series exploded onto Netflix in 2023 and quickly became one of the streamer’s most talked-about originals thanks to its gorgeous animation, brutal action, and emotionally charged revenge story.

So it wasn’t much of a shock when Netflix renewed the series for another season. What’s been tougher is the wait for actual details.

That changes this June. Netflix has officially announced that Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 will be featured during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026.

The showcase takes place on Tuesday, June 23rd, during a special presentation called “Netflix Anime: Bold Stories, Boundless Worlds” at la Salle de la Volière.

The event will include updates and previews for several upcoming Netflix anime projects including THE ONE PIECE, THE RIBBON HERO, Sparks of Tomorrow, Bass X Machina, and more. But for a lot of fans, the real attraction is getting the first substantial update on Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 in over a year.

Netflix hasn’t revealed exactly what will be shown yet, but expectations are high considering how long it’s been since the last major announcement.

Last year, series co-creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green offered the first real tease about where the story is headed next, confirming that Mizu’s journey will shift from Japan to London.

Noizumi explained: “Mizu’s journey remains the same. Revenge is her religion. She believes that at least two of the men that she’s out to kill are going to be somewhere in this magical place called London.”

She also hinted that Season 2 may bring back a few characters fans assumed were gone for good, teasing: “…there are also going to be maybe some people you thought died, who maybe are still alive.”

Netflix also released a brief story tease for the upcoming season, and it sounds like things are only getting more dangerous for everyone involved:

“In season 2, Mizu’s bloody quest continues in London, where she faces new friends, old foes, and her own demons. In Japan, Akemi and Taigen navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new Shogun, while Ringo searches for new purpose.”

The first season raised the bar incredibly high. Between its cinematic action sequences, layered storytelling, and unforgettable characters, Blue Eye Samurai became one of Netflix’s strongest animated originals almost overnight.

The series even went on to win the Emmy Award for Best Animated Series, beating out some serious competition along the way.

At the moment, Netflix still hasn’t announced an official release date or release window for Season 2, but Amber Noizumi and Michael Green are both returning alongside animation studio Blue Spirit.

Hopefully the Annecy presentation finally gives fans a proper look at what’s next for Mizu because the wait has been brutal.

In the meantime, if you still haven’t watched Blue Eye Samurai, now’s probably the perfect time to fix that before Season 2 starts slicing its way back onto Netflix.
