Francis Lawrence Eyes Supernatural Thriller CARRY ME TO MY GRAVE For Lionsgate
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantLionsgate has picked up rights to Carry Me to My Grave, the upcoming supernatural thriller novel from bestselling author Christopher Golden, with Francis Lawrence attached to develop the project and potentially direct.
Lawrence is also set to produce through his first-look deal with Lionsgate alongside his producing partner Cameron Maconomy. The novel won’t even hit shelves until July 21 through St. Martin’s Press, but Lionsgate clearly saw something worth jumping on early.
The story is described as a supernatural thriller centered on a man desperately trying to protect his dead mother’s body from a terrifying evil force hunting it down. That setup already sounds like nightmare fuel in the best possible way.
Lawrence seems like a perfect match for this kind of material. The filmmaker has spent years building an impressive résumé in large-scale genre storytelling with projects like I Am Legend, The Long Walk, and multiple films in The Hunger Games franchise.
He’s currently gearing up for Lionsgate’s upcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which arrives in theaters on November 20.
The director recently wrapped up work on The Long Walk, his adaptation of the Stephen King novel starring Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson. Between that and another return trip to Panem, Lawrence clearly isn’t slowing down when it comes to dark and intense storytelling.
Golden has also been on a serious adaptation streak lately. His novel Road of Bones is headed to Sony with Scott Derrickson directing from a script co-written with C. Robert Cargill. Meanwhile, Amazon and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society are developing The House of Last Resort, which Golden is adapting himself.
Outside of novels, Golden also co-wrote the Hellboy films released in 2019 and 2024, including Hellboy: The Crooked Man. The author has earned both Bram Stoker and Shirley Jackson Awards for his horror fiction, and Hollywood clearly keeps circling his work for good reason.
There’s still plenty of road ahead before Carry Me to My Grave reaches the big screen, but pairing Christopher Golden’s supernatural horror sensibilities with Francis Lawrence’s cinematic style already deliver a great film.
