by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantFans have been waiting a long time to seeJason David Frank’s final film project, and now the new trailer for Legend of the White Dragonhas arrived, giving audiences an exciting preview of the late Power Rangers icon's final film performance ahead of its long-awaited theatrical release.
Produced by Bat in the Sun and distributed by Well Go USA Entertainment, the movie has been years in the making, and this latest trailer offers the clearest look yet at the action-packed superhero adventure that many fans have been anticipating since it was first announced. You can watch the trailer below.
Directed by Aaron Schoenke, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Alex Kellerman, Legend of the White Dragon became a reality after an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020.
While the film isn't connected to the Power Rangers franchise, it's packed with the larger-than-life superhero action, colorful characters, and tokusatsu-inspired style that helped make Frank a genre legend.
Frank stars as Erik Reed, a once-celebrated hero known as the White Dragon. After taking responsibility for a devastating tragedy that ended his career, Reed has spent years living in the shadows.
“But when the ruthless Dragon Prime, played by Schoenke, threatens everything he has left, Erik is forced back into action. Along the way, he'll battle dangerous new enemies while trying to reclaim his reputation and protect what's left of his family and legacy.
The official synopsis reads: "Power Rangers stars Jason David Frank, Jason Faunt, Cerina Vincent, and Ciara Hanna reunite in a heroic new adventure. Three years after hiding his White Dragon alias, Erik Reed (Frank) emerges from the shadows to reclaim his stolen identity and clear his name.
“But as he seeks to reunite with his secret family, a mysterious villain known as Dragon Prime rises with a relentless vendetta to see the White Dragon fall for good."
One of the biggest draws for longtime Power Rangers fans is seeing Frank reunite with several familiar faces. The cast includes Jason Faunt, Cerina Vincent, and Ciara Hanna, alongside David Ramsey, Mark Dacascos, Andrew Bachelor, and the late Michael Madsen, making the film one of Madsen's final screen appearances as well.
Although Legend of the White Dragon marks Frank's last live-action role, his impact on the Power Rangers universe continues to grow. His legendary character, Tommy Oliver, is currently leading the charge in two new comic book series from BOOM! Studios.
The first, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 by Marguerite Bennett, Andrew Lee Griffith, and Joshua Jensen, launched in June and reunites the original Ranger team for the first time in years.
Tommy, however, is mysteriously absent, seemingly choosing to continue his own strange journey through a prehistoric world instead of answering his teammates' call.
Then in August, Power Rangers: Green #1 by Paul Allor and Gustaffo Vargas imagines Tommy attempting to settle into retirement before someone from his past arrives with one more mission that could pull him back into saving the world.
For a lot of fans, Legend of the White Dragon represents far more than another superhero movie. It's a chance to celebrate the legacy of an actor who inspired generations through his work and whose passion for the genre never faded.
Judging by this latest trailer, Frank's final performance looks like it'll deliver the kind of heroic action and heartfelt emotion that made him an icon in the first place.
Legend of the White Dragon arrives exclusively in theaters on August 28.
