Léa Seydoux and Bill Murray to Star in Ursula Meier's Detective Feature THE QUIET LAND

Actors Léa Seydoux (Spectre, Blue is the Warmest Colour) and Bill Murray (Ghostbusters, Lost In Translation) have signed on to star in the detective drama The Quiet Land from Swiss director Ursula Meier (Home, Sister, The Line).

Meier co-wrote the film’s script, which she describes as a love story, and it follows an aging cop (Murray), who teams up with a woman who is on a desperate quest for justice.

The English-language film will be set in Montana, but shot in Alberta. The director is currently in pre-production on the project, with plans to shoot next year.

In a conversation with Variety, Meier said The Quiet Land is influenced by Swiss police photographer Arnold Odermatt, “who over a career spanning more than 40 years documented car accidents in striking, black-and-white analog photography,” and in looking at these photos and imagining the “script of the crash,” the writer-director has fashioned a plot with shades of Blow-up and Memento. Montana Highway Patrolman Connor McCluskey is dismissed on the basis of a medical evaluation while investigating two fatal crashes, and, fearing foul play, seeks to protect an elder woman in the area, and from this Meier hopes to “go very deep into the love story.”

The Quiet Land is also shooting in Switzerland, and Meier calls it a “police investigation, a love story and above all, a highly personal emotional journey to the self. A meditation on what remains of us when we’re gone.”
