Kano censorship board invites Kwankwasiyya singer Gandu over alleged regulation breach

The Kano State Censorship Board has invited popular Kwankwasiyya praise singer Tijjani Gandu over an alleged violation of its regulations in connection with the release of a musical work.

The board, in a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, directed Gandu to appear before it to address the alleged breach.

The board said musicians, writers and producers of other literary works are required to submit their songs, scripts and written materials for review and approval before making them available to the public.

It explained that the review process is aimed at ensuring that published works do not contain words, expressions or messages capable of inciting public disorder or disrupting peace and stability in society.

According to the statement, “The Board would not allow individuals to deliberately disregard its regulations under the guise of exercising freedom of expression.”

The board reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law and said its regulations would be implemented fairly, without discrimination or favouritism.

It urged Gandu to respect the law and honour the invitation, warning that failure to appear could be regarded as non-compliance and may result in further action.
